Default Should I replace TPS when installing new tires?

I'm assuming everything is working fine with my TPS units, but since the car is an '01, is it a good idea to replace them out of hat? Is there a definitive life cycle for those parts or should they stand up for another couple years?

Thanks,
-chad

everything i've read says that the original pressure sensors last about 8 years.

although my sensors from my -00 (with a build date of 9/99) still worked, i replaced them just recently because they're pushing the 8 year marker.

your -01 sensors should last a while longer.

We're putting cover sheets on all the TPS reports from now on.

Sorry - couldn't resist.

My '99 coupe has had exactly one TPS go bad. I got the replacement used from the Parts For Sale section.

Can you replace just the batteries, or do you need to replace the complete TPS?

They are considered "non-servicable", but I belive some industrious types have rebuilt them.

The 2001-2004 sensors are not that much money and last 6-8 yrs (I guess). I just had new ones installed with my new wheels and tires.

I have read that they should last 10 years or 100K miles. The mileage IS an issue 'cause when parked they go to "sleep" saving battery.

About once every few months I get the "service tire press. mon" on my DIC and the same sensor shows up as xxx. Is this an indication that the battery is getting weak on that one? Or can this happen from time to time even on a perfectly good sensor?

My car has aftermarket chrome wheels on it and I don't know if the original owner put the original sensors in there, or if he bought new ones at the same time. So my sensors could be almost ten years old or they could be as new as 3 years old.

You should get 10 years and 100,000 miles out of series II TPSs. They last longer than series I because they do not update as much (but don't worry, they update imediately if they lose pressure).

Roll of the dice. I opted to buy new sensors for my 2000 coupe with 27k miles. New tires and sensors are sitting in my garage waiting for the spring!

I have not had any problems with mine, but with the mileage I put on my car annually the new tires will be on for a few years. I didn't want to deal with dismounting and mounting the tires in the interim if the original sensors went bad.

Your current sensors should last a while longer, but since they are the cheaper version to buy, you might want to go ahead and replace them when you change wheels.

I had one go bad in November on my 99. I am getting new tires this spring, so holding out on replacing it until I do, then it will be all 4.

Some things suck about having a 99, extra vette tax on TPS and and FOB's for starters.
