Default What's wrong with this Picture?

There's been a lot of threads lately about tire sizes etc.......and I've noticed that many people are running a 265 series tire up front. I've also seen quite a few pictures of this size on a 9.5" wheel, but none of them look like what I have on the front of mine. I'm running stock size chrome Z06 wheels on it (17x9.5 Front) & (18x10.5 Rear) and a 265/40/17 tire on the front wheel.

As I mentioned, mine looked a little different as far as the way it fit, so out of curiosity, I went out last night and measured both the front and rear wheels. They both measured 10.5 inches. As you'll see from the pictures, the front wheel is as wide as the tire and actually sticks out about a half inch further than the fender. Do they even make a 17x10.5" front wheel? My receipt shows it as a 17x9.5, but as you'll see in the Last picture, my rear wheel measures the same width on the measuring tape. (It has a 275/40/18)

**EDIT** Two more pictures posted further down
.

This one facing down, shows both the 265 hardly being wide enough for the wheel, and that it sticks out a ways further than the fender.

Here's the rear wheel..........regardless of the angle I took them at, the front and rear measure the same.

So does anyone else have a 265/40/17 on a 17x9.5 rim? And if so, does it fit the same way on yours? (See pictures posted down a ways)

looks to me like you have 9.5 both front and rear.

Then you're not reading the measuring tape correctly.

Actually the end of my measuring tape is about a half inch in from the inside edge of the rim. Overall width from inside edge to outside edge is closer to 11"

what kind of tires?? some tires have smaller tread width than others. but if you are measureing accurately.. you gots the same width front and rear. measure the width of the front and rear tread also. just to see if they have the difference they should also. but those front tires do look like they are stretched on those wheels. hey, worst case senerio, you can get bigger front tires now!!!

Well you can not measure from the outside, the beds are from the inside to inside on a 9.5 rim. Looks like you have after market rims Z06 from your picture. If so i would say that they have the wrong off set. But from those pictures i would not be able to tell.

A wheel's stated width is measured where the tire bead seats. Inside of lip-to-inside of lip.

With each lip thickness being 1/2"...the overall width of a wheel always measures 1" wider.

If you measuered 10.5" like you did....then you have 9.5" wheels.

What I did was put the end of the measuring tape through the spokes and hooked it on the edge where the inside bead would be, (on both tires) and they read the same on the measuring tape.

These two pictures show why I think it's wider than 9.5

A 265/40/17 shouldn't be stretched so much on a 9.5" rim IMO. (The outside edge of the rim gets scraped if I pulled too close to a curb)

if you take off the wheels, are there any numbers imprinted on the inside telling of the specs?

Yeah there shouldn't be a stretch. My 265s are exactly flush with my 9.5" wheel, as well as the 295s on the rear 10.5". No bulge or stretch on either...

Here's a picture of the inside. It looks stretched on the rim if you ask me. And it only looks as if there is a quarter of an inch between the outside edge and where the tire would bead.

Actually I'll be able to find out next week, as I bought a new set of wheels and tires yesterday. I just thought my front wheels looked a little too wide to be a 9.5"

You can't usually tell anything by looking or measuring unless you measure with the tires off. Look on the inside of the wheel where it's mounted. Might have the size, it should be somewhere on the rim.
