Just curious, I have seen items on E-Bay listed as brand new selling with a "buy it now" for a 1/3 of what GM Performance Dealers sell the items for. I am a firm believer in "if it seems too good to be true".......
What am I missing?
btw, these are items that are in big demand.........
When you see those "to good to be true" auctions, report them to EBAY...it'll help eliminate the scams.
You have to click on "help", go through a bunch of multiple choice steps, copy the auction number, send them that number.

my educated guess would be that perhaps the items are of questionable origan. (perhaps hot / stolen)
In many cases, the fraudulent auctions are where an "unauthorized third party" scammer has taken the legitimate auction description and photos of someone else and added an e-mail account of their own.
They'll include in the description something to the effect..."don't contact me through EBAY, contact me directly via this e-mail to be pre-approved before bidding."
They're hoping that someone will be naive or greedy enough to bite on the cheap "buy it now" option and give up personal information and/or their money for the smoking deals. It's not uncommon for a few people to actually start bidding on a "buy it now" $6500 2004 Corvette Z06.
By fraudulently using someone else's EBAY username, the fees for the fraudulent auction get charged to that unknowing victim. The victim(s) usually doesn't discover the fraud until someone tracks them down through EBAY, threatens action for theft of their legitimate auction or asking why the price is so cheap.
I had this happen to me, the scammer wanted my 100% feedback score/user name to give false security to potential victims. Then EBAY/PAYPAL got me for $300+ in fees for the three fraudulent motorcycle auctions. EBAY/PAYPAL still hasn't reimbursed me for completely.

You'll find good, and bad, stuff on the auction site - but
here on the Forum we try and not use that auction site name
It is not a nice thing to do considering our Supporting Vendors pay good (oe bad ) money to keep this site active for the members.

Believe me, I understand. I just bought a set of used heads from a member. The ones on the auction site were new for $100 more. I am very comfortable with my deal, not sure if I would be with the auction deal. The forum member gave me name addresss and phone #, and answered the phone when I call him!
I'd be weary of electronics and mechanical stuff. if you're getting say a panel or somthing simple i don't think there should be a problem.
Check feedback and look to see how they're doing there.
If you do have to make a questionable purchase, use your credit card. Unlike paypal (A-holes) your credit card will usually not hold you responsible for broken, or wrong orders.
I HIGHLY advise NOT using a bank card with paypal.
i've had several good experience with ebay and a few bad ones. but nothing beats the prices.
