I am considering the OEM exchange at corvette mikes. How can I tell I am getting an original Z06 wheel and not a repro? Also which wheel is better the 2001 or the 2002 and how will I be able to tell them apart? I am talking about chrome plated wheels.
Thanks
JOHN
Also any of you local So Cal guys deal with CorvetteMike? How were you treated?
To Tell 2001 from 2002 GM wheels: Look on the back side of the spokes, the forged 2001's are smooth, the cast 2002's have a scallop cut or molded in the back of each spoke to save weight. This is easy to feel with your fingers on installed wheels also, in case you want to look at some on the lot.
PS Z06's built next week will have 2001 wheels on them, the airline downtime disrupted shipments from Italy. Check Kens newsletter for more details!!

..just wondering...is the 2001 Z06 wheel substitution only for the purpose of getting the 2002 model "out the door" and to the dealer....to await the replacement '02 "proper" wheels when available (UNDER WARRANTY???) I don't think that I would appreciate getting a new 2002 model with the old type wheels since GM made such a big deal over the new cast type...
Well, I wouldn't be too concerned about the "substitute" wheels, about half the time when GM changes suppliers, it is for COST, and you would be hard pressed to convince me that the special CAST 2002 wheels are stronger than the 2001 FORGED ones!! Of course Gm has to make some deal about them, would you like it if you knew up front, HEY, we cheapened the new model this year, but the price only is going up a small bit?

You would be better off getting the 01 Z06 wheel. :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:
Forged is stronger than cast and the weight of cast is approx. quarter pound per wheel less. Not a big deal.
GM is pissed having to put the more expensive 01 wheel on the 02, but things happen. Do you really think GM would have gone to cast if they were more expensive.
