A dealer told me they have two new 2002 z06's on the way, but they are asking MSRP + 5k. They also told me that GM will only make 250 of them (remember the 95 Impala SS). They said that the whole city (denver) only saw a dozen last year and this year will be much the same.
He did say he might be able to work with me on the price a bit. I think they bought them at MSRP from another dealer in NY.
Anyway, is it worth it at this price? The new .9 % rates make it a good buy, but If some emergency comes up, I want to be able to get rid of the car with out taking a huge hit. Thoughts?
A fair price is MSRP-$2000, not MSRP+$5000.
You are being :bs
Do not go for this "deal". :nono:
Rather check with a forum supporting dealer and get a much better deal. :chevy
About 20% of the Corvettes produced are Z06 models, so that is more like 7000 Z06...more :bs on the part of the dealer.
Don't talk to them anymore!
'O1 Z07 production was planned at about 20 percent, but they came up a little short because of a wheel supply problem. The new wheel vendor for '02 has eliminated that so they will probably build a good 7000 Z06 models in '02.
The salesman you are dealing with is a slimball. Take your business elsewhere. Why not just order a Z06 from a Corvette Forum supporting dealer?
Z06 dealer allocation is based on past Corvette sales history. A dealer who sells less than five or six Corvettes a year doesn't even get a Z06 allocation for '02, so you want to deal with an honest high volume Corvette dealer, who should have plenty of allocations. With the economy tanking prices are going to drop as the months go by. A lot of dealers are offering small discounts on '02 Z06 models today, and this trend will probably continue.
Dealers in Denver are way over priced - Elway, Roth, etc. I have heard that Burt and Bozarth might be willing to deal. Some members on the forum have gotten good deals via forum dealers like Maxie Price in Atlanta. If you call Maxie, talk to a lady by the name of Monica Dean. I hear she is the one who deals with forum members. If that does not work out, there are previous posts on this forum that have discussed this topic.
By the way, I live in Highlands Ranch and I got my Z via an outfit in NY.

Thoughts?
Thought #1: Dealer is indeed a slimeball - minimum 7000 cars for 2002. You should be able to easily get at least 2K off from one of the supporting dealers in this economy.
"I want to be able to get rid of the car without taking a huge hit."
Thought #2: If this is a major concern, don't buy the car. Even with a decent discount, you are likely to get a big hit if you need to sell it. It's a very soft market for luxury goods right now, and a Corvette qualifies as a "nice to have," not a "must have." (Except for some of us... :D)
Remember, once you buy it, it's just a used car to the next guy/gal.
Do not pay MSRP or over MSRP the market is soft. People are buying at MSRP and below from California dealers. Checkout the forum dealers and save your money.
i think the market has changed lately with the advent of 0%. email me and i will discuss my recent experiences. only took a week from start to finish. if you really want a good deal on a Z06 i think you need to find a dealer in BFE that doesn't know or get any traffic. waiting to winter when 0% is past will probably help. call vettenet (a sponser) and ron can educate you on current situation.
