My friggin' steering wheel developes a squeek after it gets warm on my 97 Vert. Has anybody out there had this problem and if so do you know how to fix it? I tried spaying some WD 40 around the column but didn't help. It seems like something swells in there when it gets warm and starts rubbing? If I could drive in a straight line and not turn I would be fine!!!
I have been experiencing the same problem with my '99 Vert. Here is a link to a previous thread that pretty much addresses the problem and the solution. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...steering+sqeek Read through the whole thread to get to the solution.
I could not get to the location in the engine bay with the grease I had, so I somewhat soaked the area with WD. Squeak is gone for now but still would like to get a can of lith. grease and a long tube.
Hope this helps.
mine sounds like its moaning in pain everytime i turn the wheel. it is coming from the steering column inside on mine. my wife started cracking up the other day when we went out. it actually sounds like it groaning!!!! has been doing it for almost a year now and keeps getting louder. i need do to the lube thing also. BUT sometime ago i remember a thread that didnt talk about takeing the column apart. but squirting the lube in through somewhere down by the pedals

It was the same way with mine, sounded just like it was on the inside perhaps in the steering under the airbag, perhaps the horn ring. I did everything I could short of disassembling the steering column. Sprayed silicone everywhere and still it made noise. Tried to spray as described in the above thread but I could not get to the steering shaft with the lithium grease. Soaked with WD40 out of frustration and..... it has stopped squeaking. Go figure. Heck it is worth a try.
BTW, aren't you the one I sent the GA license plates to? Did you get them?
Let me know.
Thanks,
Tom
