im in the air force and as soon as i get back from Korea which will unfortunately be in a year i plan on buying a C5 and i wanted to know what a good price for a 97-98 would be and also what is a good website to find aftermarket performance... after i get the car i should be able to put a few g's into it and would also like to know what mods to start w/ i planned on intake headers exhaust and a tune is there anything else i need to look out for and/ or anything i need to work on as soon as i get it.
i used to have a 92 supra, a 2000 mustang and a 94 GSR built integra, so i know some about mods i just would like to know whats best to start with on these bad boys... thanks in advance
you will be real happy when you get a c5. i'd say you can get a 97-98 for around 18k but if you sped the extra cash upfront, you can get a 00-02 for around 23-24k with about 40k miles. I haven't done any corvette shopping in a while but i think these will be pretty acurate numbers.
the key is, don't jump on the first one. know what you want before you buy one and keep looking. there are some great deals to be had on c5's.
for performance, browse around the forum. but for mail order there is Ecklers and MidAmerica, etc.
thanks alot man... i want either black, silver or yellow and deff. a 6spd manual i see no point in having a auto sports car... other than that im up for anything as long as its pretty clean.

Hard to say what prices will be like in a year or so. I'd agree that for around $22-24K, you should be able to find a really nice '00-02 with relatively low mileage. Just be patient when you begin to look and find the car that has all the options and color you want. Don't settle for something as you may wind up unhappy.
i also want to thank you for your service in the military... i picked up my 00 in november with 44k miles @ 25,500 out the door, taxes and all included.. and it was pampered, so if u look the right places you could most likely find one cheaper than i paid... especially in a yr

man when i started my search (about 2 years ago) all i knew was that i wanted a 6 speed, and black interior. I didn't even care what color the exterior was I was just happy to be buying a vette.
But the fact is after I bought it, i learned more and more about them (with the help of this forum of course) , and i realized that i should have waited and did some research before i bought mine.
Theres things like, Heads Up Display, Fog Lights, Adjustable Suspension, that my car doesn't have but i wish it did.
Since you know you have a year to go, browse this forum as frequently as you can and learn it all before you buy. I wish I would have done it.
But i do love my vette anyway.

I bought my 01 coupe with 21k for 24,000. It's in mint condition with all the options. I looked on cars.com and found this from a private owner. In my opinion if the vehicle checks out then private parties are the best deal. I saw my same yr,and color for the same price with exactly dbl. the miles at a dealer. Buying it from a private party involves many reasons why their selling for that they will come down on price more than a dealer.
I bought my 01 supercharged vert over the summer for $26-27. It had 33k on the clock. I love the extra power the SC gives. It's my third, once you buy one, you will be hooked for life. IF you want the M6, you won't be disapointed. Good luck
