Try the needle and glue routine - that does sound promising.

The armrests go on with a strip of double sided tape which was located in the center of the armrests. I suppose if you have a really bad problem, then this won't work. If you have a spot where you can use the tape, the armrests will help push down the loose vinyl so it really is not noticeable with a casual glance at the door.
