Default C5 Memory Fading

I suspect both my car and I are getting old because we both seem to be forgetting things we didn't use to. Perhaps as to the car, you guys can help me.

Vehicle: 2000 Coupe

Problem: The Delco Stereo System used to keep its place so when I turn the car off after listening to the 10th CD, song No. 7, I would return to the same place. Also, the seat, steering wheel (etc.) seemingly forgets where it was the when I turned off the key. Sometimes it remembers, but more often than not, it doesn't.

Question: Are all these systems handled by the same memory component and if so, how do I clear the memory, start again and have the care remember where it was when the key was last turned off?

Are you on your original battery? I started having similar problems (namely with the radio) just before my battery shorted out and I had to get a new one.

Sounds like you may be having a battery problem. You can check voltage for a quick, inaccerate check (12.5 is full charge 11.4 full discharge).

Best way is to get a load test done. Usually any place that sells batteries will do one for free. What may happen with a weak battery is, it drops too low in voltage while cranking the car and the computer looses memory.

Gook luck. You should also check your DIC codes and clear history ones. Low battery gives lots of codes.

Had the same problem myself....once I bought a new battery, the problem went away.

You might want to consider buying one before it leaves you stranded somewhere.

Are you pressing the UNLOCK button on your key FOB each time before opening the door and entering the car? Pressing the UNLOCK button on the FOB is what initiates the recall function that starts when the key is placed into the ignition. Get into the habit of pressing the UNLOCK button each time before opening the door and entering the car and see if this helps. Too, turning the ignition key to start the car before the memory recall cycle is complete will interrupt the recall function and you will have to use the memory buttons on the door to complete the memory recall. This is all covered in your owner's manual under the memory function and you may want to review that portion of the manual.

HTH and good luck!

Battery, the org. battery (2000 cpe) showed no voltage drop even when it was to weak to start the car, put in a "Red Top" and everything worked better, although I didn't know they were not working properly 'till I put in a new batt. (I.E. lite on mirror went from yellow to white). I think 6 yrs. from a stock Delco is pretty damn good, I'll be shocked if the Red Top even comes close to that kind of service.

Thank you all for your insight (CSC5, Oldvetter, Lightgomez, Fourtrax250R, c5vette_dallas, Herringchoker): I intend to go out and purchase a new battery. What I failed to say was that this didn't start happending until I let it sit for about two months until I replaced the brake pads. Then, it started, but wasn't happy. Battery makes perfect sense.

TheBigDog and Photoguy: I would respond to your suggestions/comments, but I don't remember what they were.
