Default lowering the C5Z

I took the car in to a shop to be lowered and they could only drop the front about 1/4 inch and the rear about 1/2 inch I know they sell bolts for the rear, but what is there to do for the front?

You could cut the front bushings, not sure that they sell replacement bolts for the front. Or you could go the more expensive route and get some coilovers.

A simple search on will give you all the info you need, complete with pictures in some cases.

You could also remove the front bolts completely.

Do it right the first time and buy some coilovers.

How much drop do you want? The Z springs have a high rate which makes them harder to drop. You can cut the bushings in the front to get about another 1/2" or so, but you will need new shocks as you are taking away all your travel and it will not ride as well as before.

If that's all the drop they were able to get then they did something wrong. I dropped my Z to the maximum on stock bolts and got more than an inch front and rear. I then cut the front bushings for a little more rake. They should have been able to get more adjustment than that.

Also it takes a while for the car to settle. Drive it around for a while. You should be able to get 5/8" to 1" on stock bolts and without cutting the bushings.

It hasn't droped any more since they did it for the front. I put about 200 mines on it since then and we have about 18" of snow on the ground right now, so it will be a little while before I get to drive it again.

After 200 miles, it will not settle anymore than it has already.

Can you take the nut on the stock bolts down all the way? I left a little space on mine just in case it backed off some, did I have to do this?

Lowered about as far as you can go on stock bolts. I don't see how anybody could go any lower for a car that's driven regularly. I hit about as often as I can stand. Any lower and I would want it back up some. Of course there are some who drop them farther, but they must live in areas with some very level ground.

You are better off leaving 2 threads visible so the bolts don't fall out and cause any unintended handling consequences.

I would like to lower my car more, just for looks, but I scrape way too much for that. Oh, well.

For the people that say they "scrape" with a car lowered on stock bolts.

Do you scrape

the underside of the car and/or rocker panels

or

the front air deflector (black plastic at bottom of the bumper)

I ask this because my car is slammed on coilovers and I rarely scrape the underside of the rockers (no damage thanks to rocker rails!) only when I am going into or out of steep driveways, so I don't understand how a car lowered on bolts can scrape anything?

Most of time it's just the air deflector(every day when I leave my driveway). But on occasion, I have scraped the framerails on steep driveways or dips on SF streets. I have also high-sided and scrped the rocker panels on a steep driveway.

Maybe the previous owner already had lowered it a bit?
