My boss had an Infinity M45 with a FOB and key like that. When I went to the Infinity dealer to replace a lost unit, it cost me about $500 (after my discount).
For the early years there is a problem with these - when you swap your old board into them, the Passive Entry system is enabled and there is no way to disable it, as I recall....
I have had mine for over a year now. I bought when it was from the supporting vendor here on CF.
I like mine, I bought the entire FOB, not just the outside. I had the key cut at the Chevy Dealer (no charge!) and all has been good. It is a bit bigger than the original (see pic) but I do like it.
This is pretty cool (looking at the 2001-2004 version). I'd like to hear from other owners as well.
ptdrummer54: any additional info you can provide on that problem?
Thanks,
-chad
The problem is that this new FOB is made for all the C5 years, but the early original ones have the passive switch on them, which this does not. When you remove power from the original FOB's board, passive defaults to being on. So whn you put the old board into this new FOB, passive is on, and since it does not have an external passive switch (like the original FOB does) you can not turn it off.

I asked for this from Ecklers for Valentine's day. My g/f called and gave them all my cars information. Then had to take my keys to the dealer to have them "tested" or something. Then called Ecklers back with all the information only to find out that once you get all that information the computer system says they don't stock them anymore. They claimed too many returns and issues with them so they don't sell them anymore (as of Feb. 2007).
I have this fob and I like it, it is rather large however.
The morons at my local Chevy dealership almost ruined it because they could only cut one side of it. I ended up taking it to a professional locksmith and they were able to cut it correctly.

I think you can specify that you want the one with the passive switch.
I have one. It's much larger then it looks. I used it for a while the went back to the OEM Fob. It was just to big in my pocket.
I got it when Southern Car Part was selling them.
You can measure tthe resistance in the key with a multimeter and there is a chart that tells you the corresponding VAT # if you don't feel like take you key to a Stealer.
