Default C5 sirius ???

so I have had this thing for a while and I am now wanting to put it into the Vette. 2000 coupe. My question is this... for those of you that have this where have you placed the antena? I mean I know it is magnetic and everything so that limits where to place it externally but also how safe is it to be placed upon the paint?

thanks ahead of time!

Take out one of your outside tail lights and mount it on one of plastic lips. It will be 100% hidden and reception will be perfect.

And yes, Sirius is much better than XM. It probably won't matter soon if they merge like they claim they are.

Default Let's get Sirius

Mine's a '99 FRC. Try this:

Remove right most tail light. You'll notice two nuts holding an aluminum bracket to the interior tub. Measure the distance between them. Cut a piece of scrap metal (suggest aluminum) such that you can use the two bolt shafts to attach it to the tub. Drill holes for the bolts. Make the metal piece long enough to span the bolts and bend 90 degrees such that you have a ledge wide enough to mount the antenna and parallel to the ground. Loosen the nuts on the bolts, slip the fabricated bracket over the bolts, replace the nuts. Don't over tighten them. Using the 'stcky pad' that should have come with your radio set (If not, get 3M 2 sided tape at auto parts store), fasten the antenna (facing up) to the bracket. Drill a small hole up behind the trunk light area and feed the antenna cable through or use the entry point for your regular antenna wire. Run your Sirius antenna wire through the interior to your radio. Reinstall the tail light. The rear fascia is plastic and won't attenuate the received signal. Mine works like a charm, no need to mount on the body

I tucked the wire in between the dash and the windshield, the antenna sit dead center in the windshield and gets great reception and i can barely see it.

I have to agree Stern sucks.
But overall I prefer Sirius to XM and I HAD both, cancelled the XM kept the Sirius.
For my likes, they could just move the sports channels from XM over to Sirius and simulcast the same format on both Xm and Sirius.

With HollywoodFRC above in post #4. Its a little work but antenna is out of sight and works great. You can also just take the mag mount and attach it to the metel rear bumper just below the tail lamps. It works there also.

What type of Sirius radio are you installing?

Has anyone used the FM antenna adapter for the Sirius radios?? It eliminates the disc antenna and cable that comes in the kit.

The C5 antenna cable plugs into the adapter, the adapter has a cable that goes to the Sirius radio and then another cable goes from the head unit to the adapter.

You do need to get some adapter cables to match up the cable connector types as the GM radios use a different connector, but it saves running the car kit antenna and from what I have read, the reception is even better than the car kit antenna and a lot of the hiss at higher volumes goes away.

C4Cruiser,
What I believe you are talking about is not quite correct.
The Unit broadcasts a signal and your car radio recieves that signal when tuned to the right freq.
The adapter you mention makes a direct connection between the unit and the radio antenna (with adapters) so there is no interferance with outside radio transmissions.
It does not turn your car antenna into a satellite antenna or replace the satellite antenna.

However, I could misunderstand what you are talking about.

PS, my Sirius works great with the antenna behind the taillight as mentioned above...

Sully, I have to start off by saying you were reading my mind. I was getting ready to post a question about the same subject. HollywoodFRC or MAC5, do you all happen to have any pics of your install? If you do and could post them, it would be greatly appreciated. I started off with my '85 and just bought the '00 model and am loving it. Don't get me wrong, I still pull the '85 model out of the garage a couple times a week, but man does the LS1 pull harder than the L98. Now I just need some tunes to listen to.

I put my antenna up front on the dash in the middle. I ran the wire in the slit(crack) along the winshield and down the side, completely hidden.

I put the reciever in the ashtray as you can see by the picture and ran the wires right through the side of the door to the ash tray(It does not impede the opening of it at all)

Works absoloutly perfect, and as far as the antenna goes, I have four units and it seems that the one's I've installed inside work better that the ones located outside! Why? I don't know, maybe because it is at the front of the car, again I don't know why but it does get better reception.

So I installed all the four antenna's inside all the vehicle's!

Thanks,Matt

No pics but I put my antenna on the upper part of the coupe's glass. Fed the wire through there. No drilling, cutting etc and its fairly invisible.

I guess this is as good a time as any to try Photobucket. I'll get an account this weekend and post my Sirius antenna install.

I removed the INSIDE passenger side tail light and mounted the magnetic antenna on the steel bumper support, drilled a small hole in the tube, ran the antenna cable under the carpet over the passenger wheel well, behind the passenger seat and up through the console. I mounted the receiver where the ashtray used to be.

mine runs behind the passenger seat and out the passenger window right at the very top. The magnet sits on the top of the car between the rear window and the removable top. Its been there for several years and no scratches at all. Only thing is over about 110 mph, it comes off. (it was this way when I bought the car and just have not changed it)
