Hey there,
Do all the C5's have the LS1 motor?
Or do any of the last C5's have the LS2 motor?
Don't shoot me if this is a dumb Q.
i have a 2002 trans Am WS6, and I understand that the 'vett C5 has the same motor.
Correct me.
I guess all the 'verts are LS1, and not available with the Z06 motor?
Any particular year to stay away from?
I was going to get a C6, but I feel the C5 is a better looking car.
It must be a 'vert.
What power difference will I see between my LS1 WS6, and a 'vette?

Power difference...None, performance difference...alot. The weight difference between the two cars is the cause for the better performance of the C5 over the TA.
All verts are LS1's...all C5's are LS1's unless they are Z06's, then they are LS6's. coupes are 350 hp, verts are 345 hp, Z06 is 405 hp
No. Coupes and convertibles had the same horsepower ratings. The LS1's installed in the Corvette were rated 345 hp from 1997-2000, and 350 hp from 2001-2004.
Additionally, the LS6's installed in Corvettes were rated 385 hp in 2001, and 405 hp from 2002-2004.

My vert has the same hp as a coupe, and you will love a vert!
So my target is a 2003 - the end of C5 production,
Red convertible, back roof, tan or gray interior

Dont know about manual or auto yet,
what do you guys think, and why.
Very little town driving, use the there car for that.
and the full toy's, bells and whistles.
I think it is the 1SB, same as the 3LT on the C6?
Please correct me
Actually the 2004 was the end of production for the C5. Thats just FYI
Personally I would never get a sports car with an auto. This has been debated many many times on this forum and it all come down to personal preference. Go down to your local dealership and take both of them for a drive.
Thanks to every one who replied.
I now have good information on what to expect and what to look for in a C5.
I have only briefly took a ride in a C5 coupe, it felt good.
I haven't tried a newish C5 'vert,
I later went to the local Chevrolet dealer, and had a test drive in a new C6.
Although the new C6 was good, (as is all new cars), I couldnt' help thinking the C6 was more roomier inside, even though I know it is of lesser dimensions on the outside.
You guy's have far more experience than myself, how do you feel that the interior space is compared to each the C5 and the C6
All replies most welcome, great to share information and views.

The extra 5 hp on the 2001-2004 LSI is that due to LS6 intake only or were ther other things?
From the 2001 Press release on 2001 performance:
"5.7L LS1 V8
When current Corvette owners are asked what they'd most like to see in future Corvettes they inevitably say, "more power." So, 2001 Corvette coupe and convertible models with the standard LS1 engine got a healthy injection of just that.
Horsepower is increased from 345 @ 5,600 rpm to 350 @ 5,600 rpm. Torque increases from 350 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm to 360 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm. (375 lb-ft for manuals)
Corvette engineers designed a new composite intake manifold with increased plenum volume and smoother-flowing intake runners. This increased volume of air, delivered to the combustion chamber with less turbulence, allows camshaft lift and overlap to be moderated. The result of the greater air volume is an immediate five-horsepower increase, and the modifications to the camshaft broaden the torque curve yielding a big boost in torque at the low end."

The 1SC option package was the top of the line for C5's and is similar to the 3LT on the C6's. If you decide on an Auto you will probably want the Z51 Sport Suspensiion with the G92 3:15 Performance Rear, (overall a bit faster 0-60 than the stock gears).
