Yup my time and effort is worth more than 10 bucks! Jacking up my car which is slammed, disposing of the oil, ruining the garage etc.
You better believe I'm right there watching them drain the oil, doing on more turn on the oil filter etc...def. happy with the system I've chosen
Heres what I did... not sure if anyone else would, but I took a few scraps of 2x10s and made a 3-stack that i back the front tires onto, and while im doing that, im also backing onto a set of rhino ramps in the rear.
Works perfect and its quick and easy... just make sure to get a bit of a rolling start, as doing burnouts on the rhino ramps is a good way to melt through them (giggle)

There is an optional "tray" that will function as a platform for a bottle jack and jack stands if you want to remove a wheel, Also - there are dollies available so that you can wheel the whole thing - with the car on it to the middle of the garage or even outside if you want. I like the idea of being able to wheel it outside if you want to wash the underside of the car, and if you want to sweep under it instead of around it.
I have 9' ceilings and a four post lift is out of the question,,,,
This is a simple relatively inexpensive, but elegant solution for guys and gals like us! I was really impressed with the design and the craftmanship that goes into it. Like I said, I'm going to buy one.
My wife thinks it's a great idea too, because she worries everytime I have to place the car on jackstands, even though I have 3 tonners.....

yeah the first time we repalced noumans clutch was on jack stands , the second time we done the rear end swap i made 6x6 bocks 3 high and screwed together and side supports , much safer , then after that i git a lift and his car spends more time on it than mine . he is a mod monster .
the easiest way to change the oil in my C5. I read on here somewhere that the car must be at an angle,,,
ok, back to the original post,, she states questionably,, car must be at an angle,,, ok,, is that true?? ive never heard or read that one, but will start doing if thats the proper procedure,, i really dont think my manual says that???? huh?????? later rj

The concern here is that the front of the car should be a bit lower or pointed nose down to be sure to completely drain the pain. IE:If you have the rear of the car lower than the front, it will keep some oil in the pan.
The ground effects make it difficult to get the car in the air and I agree, the easy, simple, cheap and still a nice solution for now is stack some 2x10's and figure out what you need that way to get the car high enough to raise it with a floor jack, then support it with jack stands.
With the front end up, you may or may not be able to slip the low profile jack under the rear of the car and raise it so that it is slightly higher than the front... So maybe a set of at least one thickness of 2x's will raise the rear enough to slip the jack under. Make sure you use jack stands to support the rear after you raise it as well...
Bottom line is I too have a 4 post lift.. it is indeed the bext mod I have in my garage!!

That's exactly how I do it too. I do lift the rear up a bit higher than the front just to aid in drainage - some say you don't need to but I figure it can't hurt.

I have changed oil on my other vehicles with just a jack and jack stand and was going to try it with my C5. Haven't tried it yet since I haven't done my first oil change. Anybody know of any reason why this won't work.

Sorry Randy--I definitely have to agree with the wife on this one. Here's a funky story for you:
When my common law step-father (don't ask) passed away my mother gave my husband the tools he wanted plus his compressor and I took all the air tools (yes I actually used to work on cars at one time---those days are gone) So now we are in our driveway and my husband was rotating the tires on my car. Everytime he tried to loosen the lug the horn beeped so he tried it again---the horn beeped Sorry---no flames please---but I am a believer of divine intervention. We stopped and looked around and the damn jack was slowly going down. We fixed the jack and had no problem after that but I do not like using just the jack or even jack stands---too many possibilities. I would prefer the car as stable as possible but at least now he has some great ideas and he is totally in love with the lift---that will be next I'm sure.
"Ok---I'm looking for the easiest way to change the oil in my C5..."
Find someone to do it for you. Nearly every other solution will cost you more in time, grief and money.
I'm surprised no one suggested those suction devices where you run a tube down into the oil pan, turn on the switch and let the machine suck out the old oil. No jacks, jack stands, ramps or custom wood ramps needed! How easy is that!
So ya' leave a little old oil in the pan. It becomes so diluted (probably 60:1) by the concentration of new oil it won't be a problem. Most likely not for as long as you own the car anyway.
Oak addressed all the potential problems that you guys will likely come across with the standard ramps. After I put my ACI spoiler on with my previous combo of suspension, McGyver's (Oaks99 ) 4 post lift came in very handy! I was surprised that my car being slammed with ACI spoiler still cleared his ramps on his lift with 2X4s without any problems!
I seriously doubt with my most current suspension mods and latest round of mods it will clear though
Here are a couple of pics!
In the first pic you can see the great jack Oak is using with his 4 post Makes life a lot easier
Let me know if I could be of any further assistance

Hi Lori/Wayne --- I just jack up the car using the front jack point, stick a rhino ramp under it the wheel, set the car down, repeat on the other side, jack up the rear to level it out and do the oil change. I use jack stands on the rear. I've done it like this for the passed 3 years.
Oh yeah --- regarding your story --- I'd call that a tap on the shoulder...
I just had my Craftsman jack loose some hydra. fluid recently after I set the car down (it shot out from the piston area). I was at CostCo last night and they have a nice low-pro, aluminum, 2 ton jack for $99... I debated getting it and send the other off to the shop for repair (I don't know if I lost a seal or something, I don't know too much about the inner workings of a jack), but after reading your story, I think I'll be picking up a new jack tonight. Thanks for tapping me on the shoulder....
I go buy the oil from walmart and the filter from gm...go to any quick changing oil place and pay them 10 bucks to swap it out
I made the wooden 2x10 ramps...great for small things, but I couldn't get under the car far enough to reach the oil pan bolt. I went and bought the oil and carried to the quick change place down the street. It took them 10 minutes, cost me $15.00 and I got to watch them do it. So much easier.
With a four post lift you can change a C5s oil without even getting your hands dirty. I wish I had bought one years ago, although we have only recently had a garage with a high enough ceiling (SB at least 10'). Bad news - it takes about 100 oil changes to break even LOL.
