Default Question About This Radar Mount

I am curious, has anyone used this radar mount? I have tried others, but not a fan of them, so I am curious about this one at WCC (link below).

http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/ps-...g-bracket.aspx

One of my questions is, how exactly does it mount and is it strudy?

Appreciate all that enlighten me on this.

I had this one, it would not stop loosening up, even after I lock tited the screw and finally my visor clip broke, so I sold it.

I am looking at other options and have always returned to the one I posted above.

So, you have to remove the mirror?

Great post btw.

Thanks, this was probably the first mod I did to the vette

I removed the mirror to do the wiring. Installing the mount is as simple as removing the screw that holds the mirror and inserting the mount (it replaces the screw). I also ended up using a tad of locktite to keep it from "loosening up".

The one that i bought from ecklers <same part i'm sure> Well, it snapped off when i was screwing it into my rear view mirror.

Micah, I have the same mount as you currently have, i had that problem with the screw coming loose....just tighten it a bit more, perhaps try a lock washer.

The thing about this one is it positions the detector up in the tinted area of the window so it can't be readily seen from the outside, 99 out of 100 people won't know you have it. I took a strip of metal and made my own

It does work.

It replaces the screw that holds the mirror to the window mount.

It is stable - well as stable as any other radar detector holder

I have use this (and not on the Vettes - they have the K40's built in).

If you are considering one for the Vette I recommend it - much more "stealth" and convenient than others.

Micah,
I would like to get more info from you on the issue with the screw loosening up. I have not heard that from anyone else. I have had one in my 2000 vert for almost 2 years, and it has not come loose. Sounds like somehing else is going on. Did you have the standard mount or the offset version for auto-dimming mirrors? If I sent you another, would you be willing to try it again?

Please PM me.

Thanks,
Rick

All I needed in my application was to drill a hole for the stud to go through, then tighten the nut.

I used a bench grinder to grind away the part of the mount that was attached to the suction cups.

I may have gotten it from Ecklers, I found them before I found WCC.

Everyone, I appreciate the comments. I am going to order this one and try it out.

I will use a little locktite and be down with it.

I bought for the Ecklers mount for 2001-2004 which is slightly different than earlier models. On this model you do not remove the screw that mounts mirror to the widshield. On this model you glue a plastic part into a receptical on the mirror mount. The bolt to attach bracket is (screwed) attached into this plastic part. The biggest problem I had was modifying the mount that came with the detector (Beltronics RX-65). I had a few minor issues with the Invisicord but the whole mount works great when you are done.

I have a similar problem with the Passport. the metal rod "screws" int o a plastic modification and doesn't firmly bolt to the Passport metal holder.

I've had the first one that attaches to the mirror for the past 2 years. It was okay, but I felt that the radar detector hung too low and slightly obstructed the view. Six months ago, I bought the second one that attaches to the Visor. I prefer this model. It's tucked out of the way and isn't as obtrusive. The only problem that I have with this one is that at high speeds on a bumpy road, it tends to vibrate and bounce a bit.

got the one from vettemod. Works great. wired into the mirror and not noticable from the outside. Gave up on the one under the mirror. Especially with the recent addition of my Garmin GPS.
