No problem with 1"... You just have to remember how when you first started driving your car, you adjusted your driving habits when entering/exiting? Well, you have to adjust again.... not a huge deal.

Good luck John. Keep us posted

1" no problems. I lowered all the way on stock bolts (in front) and put longer bolts in rears with no problems. It wasn't low enough for me, so I removed the front bolts altogether and lowered the rear some more. Still no problems... Until I moved from Florida to Rhode Island and couldn't get into the driveway of the house I was renting, so I put back in the bolts and raised the rear a little. Still lower than stock. I just bought a new house with a flat driveway, so guess what -- slamming it back down! WOOHOO!!!

John ---

Let me tell you... It's not a $150 job... the hardest part (most time consuming ) is removing the front wheels... you don't even have to remove the rears. You turn 4 bolts... that's it! 45 minutes tops

Find someone (Hopefully a CF member will step up) local to you and have them help you... I just hate to see people throw money at a "tech"... it's not a techy issue

I hear ya John.. I remember being afraid to touch this car too... now I can't not try the work myself. If you lived closer, I'd do it for ya. Come on people! Give this guy a hand...

Alignment? Yes. About 2 weeks or so (if you don't drive too often, maybe longer)... the suspension will have to settle first. What susp. do you have anyway? F45 or Z51? The Z51 seems to be a lot tougher to settle...

John,
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE just do this yourself! It's VERY simple. Requires only hand tools (although a set of Allen sockets would be helpful too). DO NOT get it aligned right away. Wait for it to settle. Mine didn't even need aligning after lowering. Drop it an inch, see how you like it. If you want more, then go more. THEN get it aligned if it needs it. $150 is a RIP-OFF IMO. I've done this for a friend in less than 15 minutes. Dave is right -- getting the front wheels off is the "hardest" part. You don't even need to remove the rear wheels. If you don't have the tools, spend your $150 on tools and do it yourself. There are several good write-ups with pics that will walk you through it.
Good luck!
Vaughn

Don't beat 'em up yet... if you have the physical means/ garage space, 100% with Vaughn... just tell him you're gonna wait.

That's what our forum family is about... wait till you go to chnage the oil... I used to pay $90 a shot... started doing it myself 3 years ago after I got some pointers on this forum.

I like Vaughn's idea about buying some tools and equipment with the money instead... some Grey Rhino ramps, jacks stands some wrenchs, a nice low profile jack...

You wont need the bolts for just 1". Max drop on my 10 year old Z-51 and that's all she can take. I had the longer bolts in the back, and although it looked good, springs were just dangling there, and the entire car was "riding" on the shocks. Needless to say it drove horrible. So put back the stock bolts, and everything is fine again.

Hey, I'm a JAG -- I'll just hop in my F-14 and fly over for the day since I'm a little short on hours this month.... Oh wait -- I guess it's not like the TV show... That photo was of me last year in Iraq. I got to travel all over the country inspecting detention facilities. It was a blast!

This forum has saved me probably THOUSANDS of dollars with helping me do my own stuff. I'd never worked on Vettes before, but they really are quite straightforward for the most part. It's so simple, a caveman could do it! No offense meant to any of our caveman members...

That's why some of us call someo of them "Stealerships"...

There are some great ones like our very own Fichtner, and others, but what this techy was unloading on you is very common... he probably figured you were shy about working on the car... but like Vaughn said, these are pretty straight forward cars.
