Going to take the plunge.Dynotech Engineering out of FT.Wayne, Indiana is going to install a cam package in my 2001 zo6.Phil suggested a cam with specs of 228-234 113 lsa.Package comes with comp 918s springs.I asked about a upgrade to comp 921 springs.Phil said the 918s would work perfect. He didnt think i needed to upgrade. what do you think .918s or 921s dual springs.Looking forward to the upgrade. This car is a street driven car only.I have Kooks long tube headers-high flow cats x-pipe thru stock ti-exhaust,vortex intake.HP# quoted was 420-430 rear wheel horse power.
^ Sweet... I have a Vortex intake, Kooks LTs w/ cats, and Borla Stingers (swapped to corsa indys for the dyno, but going back to borlas). I also have an ATI 10% underdrive super damper and Yella-Terra roller rockers (new lighter design).
I got the G5-X2 cam kit from LG and it comes w/ 921 springs which are good to .650 lift. My cam specs out at 232/240 .595/.608 114. The 918's are good to .600 lift I believe... you did not post your lift numbers for that cam.
The one good thing aout a double spring is that when/if one does break it lessens the chance of dropping a valve.
^ Is it that much? I know my 921 spring kit that came w/ the LG cam kit included new valve seals, new seats, and titanium retainers. The 918's may use the stock seats and standard retainers.
I love the 921s and like Cobra said, the duals (921s, 918s are singles) give yuo a 2nd chance when one fails. Hopefuly you keep from p to v issues when it breaks...
I have had a few sets of 921s, more then I needed for my first cam, but, fine for this one. O yea, can't belive I could not remember the spec Saturday @ the national (sorry man:o ) 232 237 596 604 111+4 awww see sig. Get er done man!!!
Dave
PS yea I think the 918s are good to 600, I am sure someone here knows...
Here is the package-custom grind cam, comp cams heavy duty valve spring set-918s,comp cams heavy duty pushrod set, heavy duty double roller 3-piece cam timing set,dte ported oil pump, ngk spark plugs, and all necessary items to complete install.dyno testing before and after, street dyno calibration,pcm.2 years or 24,000 miles warranty.25% underdrive pulley/harmonic balancer, port and pollished throttle body.package price $3,000.00.921 spring upgrade cost$456.00 more.Phil did not specify the lift of the cam.
Those are old prices from our old website data Dennis and they are not the same as what was quoted you. In fact, your quote was far less.
Also, I stated on the phone with you when we spoke, we use the $26918 CC valve spring with this particular mild custom camshaft grind for your specific application, as our lobe isn't as aggressive as others to where they beat the valvetrain to death over a short period of time where frequent valve spring replacement is necessary. We believe that long-term engine durability is equally as important as power output- especially for a street car such as yours, where you're not trying to set the world on fire with the lowest E.T. you can possibly get. If someone wants the heavier duty springs for this mild grind, you can certainly get that, but it's not needed for this lobe and I don't believe in selling someone Yacht to go fishing with just because they can afford it, when all they really need a small boat to do the same job successfully. In our professional opinion, the build must suit the purpose to be effective in power output, durability and cost.
We build packages to suit the customers needs/desires based on their input as to what they're looking to get out of the car, rather than the other way around.

^ Hmmm many of use are using a LS2 timing chain, but you can't go wrong w/ the double roller.
For that price differene it must be the case that the 918's are compatible with the stock spring seats and retainers. The new seats and Titanium retainers necessary for the 921's add to the cost. However they're only initial cost. After that you only have to buy the springs for spring swap which is considerably cheaper.

I doubt you will be seeing that kind of rwhp....more like in the 405-415 range with just the cam which is similar to the G5X1 series. Be sure to ask for a copy of your dyno sheet.

You mean this dyno sheet sample?? This was taken from another 2003 Z06 we completed with the same modifications the customer has on his car above combined with our upgrade package listed here and this was done in the 86* July heat/humidity of 2006. We've repeated these numbers on many Z06's quite a few times before and this is nothing new or earth shattering.
We don't inflate our power figures, nor do we play dyno games in any capacity what-so-ever and anyone that knows us directly, has come to expect that type of solid, accurate business ethic out of us.
My car with a similar cam profile to yours (228/236 w/612/612 lift and 113 lsa) made 405hp and 390tq in my car that has 390 gears so you should be in the 415 - 425 ballpark. LAPD did use Manley Dual springs in my setup I guess due to the lift numbers. Hell, either way it makes the car a blast to drive so don't get all caught up in the numbers and enjoy the fruits of your labor man.
