im going to get my input down before this thread gets locked...
my previous car, a '00 SS (6spd), had full exhaust, headers, 4.10's, full race suspension, and pretty much all the little mods like air lid, thermostat, MAF...etc. (including one of the best tunes out there), ran high 11's
take it from me, a c5 convert with almost only headers and exhaust will not stand a chance against the TA with twice the many mods and only about 200 lbs. difference. Plus your top will slow you down...these guys who owned fbodys on this forum know what their talking about...
What about stock v stock? vette should take it right?
Driver's race with a slight edge to a C5. When I had my 01 Z28 I beat the only c5 I raced and my only mods were muffler, lid (air intake), Predator tune, and a simple free mod. This guy was running a Blackwing.
Sorry to say, but I believe the Trans am will get you. How much, I don't know, but I'm leaning towards the TA. Reason being is because the F-bodies are underrated on power. I think in '98 they were rated with around 305 at the flywheel, yet produced around the 290's at the rw. Now the W6 had around 320 at the flywheel, so the numbers should be in the 300's at the wheels. Whereas the c5 vette has 345 at the flywheel yet produces on the average around 285-295 at the wheels stock. I know the c5 has the weight advantage, but I don't know if it's enough. Either way it will be close, but I'm going with the TA on this one. Goodluck and let us know the outcome!
If I had to put money on it, i would go on the TA. But w/ street tires and driver skills anything could happen.
My 00 coupe dyno'd 324rwhp and the only performance mod it has is a blackwing..
What about stock v stock? vette should take it right?
Given equal transmissions, stock for stock it's pretty much a driver's race. I know I took down several C5's when I had my LS1 TA. I ran a 13.0@108 bone stock in it, which isn't too shabby.
And to the original poster: you're going to get slaughtered. The race will be measured in bus lengths instead of car lengths.
TA's weigh about 3400-3450 tops, so you might have 250 lbs on him. You can hate on this but a 250 lb weight advantage won't do much for you. He's pushing 70-90 more whp than you so he'll have you top end and will get you out of the hole with his mods. My guess is that he will at least have you by at least three lengths and thats being partial since I'm a vette owner. None the less g'luck and let us know the results
Who cares if he wins, no one will even notice....because when both cars come down the track, everyone will be looking at the vette!!!!
It cracks me up when I see comment like this. I once saw a 2nd gen viper got beat by a low 11's neon srt4 trust me the viper owner didn't look good coming down the track. Sure everyone was looking at the viper but at the same time laughing their asses off
That TA is gonna clean your clock. If the TA is running correctly it will turn mid 11's easily.
I 100% agree. A MS3 and head setup should be good for 420-440 at the wheels. You're going to get rocked. Make sure you get the silver platter from the T/A owner too.

WTF are you smoking, I think it might be close and yes might even loose the race but not get smoked, but anyway wouldn't expect any different answer from a 25 yr old
Why must he be smokin something and what exactly does his age have to do with your question? It seems that everyone here is in agreement that the T/A has the advantage. Unless you can out drive him or jump the start he's gonna take you off the line and keep going...It's unfortunate---I love my vette but I had a T/A and...Good luck.

I got my dollar on the T/A.
I own both ('98 T/A and '03 C5). Both are stock. The T/A is stupid fast (as is the C5) and hooks up VERY well.
The T/A you're up against has a number of internal "beef" mods. I know they don't add HP (pushrods, rockers) but I bet he didn't put them in for no reason. He probably has more HP than he's letting on.
I think you are overestimating the weight of the TA.
Also, f-bodies launch much better than C5's - especially on a more stock setup. They throw weight back onto the rear tires and just dig.
The TA will take you pretty hard out of the hole, and you will not catch up.
The above assumes that the other driver will be able to DRIVE.
I beat a 2006 Z06 with my 02 Z at the drag strip, and it was not because my car was quicker......
Good luck!

The F-body will launch better with the solid rear axle VS the Vette IRS, even though both cars are A4. Of course like many others have said...it's a Drivers skill also
Not only does the F-body have more HP, but with Heads/fastintake cam etc.. I'd be willing to bet it's puttin out some decent torque #'s also more than the vette , which is what really gets you out of the hole on launch.
I am also a former F-body owner/lover turned modded C5 nut

with the stall, you would be lucky to make out what kind of car he has when he lets off.[/QUOTE]
Most people don't seem to realize what a huge difference a stall can make. The only thing is that he will be running street tires and may not be able to hook. That'll make it a lot closer if he breaks loose hard and has to back off, and then get back into it, to get moving. Should be fun to see!
