Thanks to 'PACETHIS', I went to Greenville SC and had him retro-fit a HUD into my 98 vert. Turned out great. Used all new GM parts and it looks and works like factory. The rumer that a non-HUD windshield will not work is not true as mine works great even in bright direct sunlight. I had MPH1972 look at it and we couldnt tell the difference between mine and his 2000 coupe HUD. Before someone post how worthless this thread is w/out pics I will get some up ASAP. If you are debating this mod I would tell you it worked out great.
Josh has helped quite a few folks with their HUD conversions.
BTW, question: Exactly where is Orlando FL SC?
There isnt a typing test before joining the forum. When I added the moving to Orlando blurb the computer ran the line together and invented that place.

Did you have to change out the dash cluster with a 99?
depnds on whether it is a first half or second half year car. The gage cluster isnt what you change. It is the mother board that drives the instruments and has the memory chips 'Pace' sells everything you need. Send him a PM if you are looking to do this. He is the man
399 projector and bezzel...99 install and around 200 for the balance of parts required..if the car is 99 1/2 or later you wount need the misc parts so about 700 bucks
He was very helpful with my HUD retrofit, and his directions were very good. He supplied all new GM parts, and a custom wiring harness with easy to follow conversion directions. I did the whole job in five hours. Even in direct sunlight, the HUD display is easy to see. I wanted to take my car up there to have him do it, but in reality, it would take six hours total travel time, and I did the whole job in less time than that.

Reason: added note about travel

It is true, I looked at it and I could not tell any realy noticeable difference. The install was quick overall and Josh was a great guy doing everything he could to make the install quick and painless as well as taking extra time to take car of Al. If I had not seen the install myself, I would say that Al's car looks like a later model, because it is just such a great looking setup once complete.
If you guys out there have thought about having a HUD and have yet to do it, I PROMISE you that you will ask yourself, "Why did I wait so long?"
Seriously, it is an option I will opt for everytime I purchase a car that offers it, makes it so much easier to pay attention to both the road and speed/guages.
Still have the same cluster. Just had to install a driver board that has a HUD output.
Does that mean that there is no "Mileage" converting to do??
I have wanted this mod for a long time and the big hang-up with me and some of the people who would install was how difficult and (less than legal) it is to change the mileage. Even a few dealerships don't want to do it, if they do they want to take the car apart again and send the cluster out to recalibrate the mileage.
If I don't have to swap out my cluster for the HUD conversion that would be an answer to my prayers!!!!

What is this guys phone number!!???
You still have to remove the cluster to install the green HUD ready circuit board. What ever mileage is on the new board you put into the cluster, is the mileage your car will show. That's why you need the new circuit board recalibrated to the mileage you had on your car before you made the swap. I made this install on my '98 a few years ago. I took my "new" cluster to a local speedo shop and they reprogrammed it for about $80.
I'm not technically allowed to advertise here at this moment (though I'm awaiting supporting vendor status via the administration), so I'll keep the details short until later this month.
However, HUD can be installed in any C5. If it's a 97, 98, or some 99's, you do have to update some circuitry in your gauge cluster (several people have done this by replacing the entire gauge cluster). For these years, odometer programming is required to keep your mileage accurate. For the rest of the 99's, and all 2000-2004's, all that is needed is the base kit.
I'll be working with Gene Culley to offer a Group Purchase later this month on these if there is enough interest. It's a wonderful mod, maybe the best you can do to a non-HUD car. As has been mentioned above, the stock (non-HUD) windshield does NOT need to be replaced.
