Found out that I had a nice little puncture in the right front tire. Tried to have it plugged, but it was too close to the side wall and it wouldn't hold. Would the tire kit goop that comes with the Z have fixed the hole until I could have found a replacement? Or is it, if the plug didn't hold, the goop would not have worked either?
I did end up finally getting a replacement tire, as I was in a stranded situation (meaning Z was far from home). Luckily my buddy was able to drive me and the wounded tire around to see if a replacement could be found. Finally found a 265/40/17 at a Firestone Auto Center with 5 minutes to spare on a Saturday. So now I have the original SC's on the rear and front left and a brand new Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03 (all that was available, had no other options). Did I mention how hard it is to find stock in this size? Anyways, brings me to my post. Should I just replace the front left SC with another Potenza S-03, so I would be running SC's in the read and S-03's in the front? Is there any disadvantage to running different manufacturers in the front and rear? The tires have just over 14k on them and when I took the front on off, it had some wear, but wasn't too bad. The inside was wearing more, but I think that's normal considering the way these Z's are setup. I would hate to drop $$$'s on new ones now, if I still have >5K miles to go on them.
Generally not a good idea to run different brands of tires front and rear. Buy a used SC to match (tread depth) your other front, and sell the S03. Or if you think you'd like the S03s, buy 3 new and sell the three GYs. There always seems to be someone looking for used OEM tires, for various reasons. Tough to swallow I know, but it is the best thing to do.
I would run all 4 of the same tires, if your rear GY's still have some life left sell them for what you can to offset your costs. At 14K miles the GY's are definately nearing the end of thier lifespan.
Yeah, after reading the other thread about running diff types up front than in the rear, I've decided to hold off and get all four the same and then sell the current GY's. For 14k, they do have some good tread left. Thanks for the responses guys...
