Default LS1 LS6 heads

Posted in Tech with not much interest, hope here is better.
aside from the valves and spring, what are the differences between the two? Using the 04 Z06 LS6 springs, push rods, cam, intake, and exhaust manifolds, how much less HP would I have by not using the complete LS6 head. I'm can't afford all the high dollar stuff. Hoping to buy the left overs from someone building a motor and using my stock heads. Not looking for a Drag Car, just some Z06 grunt. I have 99 FRC with 52000 miles

Hard to say what the HP difference would be ... here's a short description of the changes ...

"This cylinder head debuted on the 2001 LS6 Vortec engine. It offers the same overall package configuration as LS1 cylinder heads. However, the combustion chamber has been downsized approximately 3cc for more compression. Also, the exhaust port has been redesigned and features a raised floor and smaller port volume. This head is characterized by a "D" shaped exhaust opening at the exhaust flange. "

I'm glad I could help. I'm a retired Viet Nam vet as well.

If you go on ebay, you don't really know what you're getting, the heads could be warped or worked. Pm me and I'll give you names of some sources where you might find what you're looking for. I don't know about donating, but you might get what you need for a reasonable price.

The LS6 heads flow about 30-35 CFM better than LS1s. You can just about translate that into 30 HP. LS6 cam ('02-'04) can add about 10 HP. The heads are definitely worth swapping if you use a slightly larger cam, since the LS6 heads like a little more duration, and can stand much more lift (with the right springs, of course).
I have seen decent, complete LS6 heads on the C5 Parts Forum sell easily in the $450-$600 range. Try to find '02 or newer heads, with the lightweight valves and slightly stronger springs.
'01 and newer LS6 intakes go for $350-$425.
Nice, used aftermarket cams average between $175 and $250.
Good luck.
