Default '98 ls1 compared to '01 ls1

Howdy, well i've got a 98 ls1 vette. when i look up aftermarket parts they are often seperated into 97-99 and 00-04 modifictaion groups. I've tried my dambest to figure out all the differences but i just cant seem to find a list. I searched this site, and gone through the stickys. maybe i missed it if so can someone link me, If not can someone help me out?

I think the AIR system is different on the exhaust manifolds. Also the MAF has an integrated IAT sensor and different diameter. Also the intake is changed to the ls6 style on the newer years.

97/98 have a return style fuel system with the pressure regulator at the engine. Later models regulate pressure in the back, which eliminates the need for the second fuel line to the engine.

As far as I know, the heads (LS1) are the same from 97-04.

97 98 heads were different, don't know the casting number but they used perimeter bolt valve covers
99-00 had 853 castings
01-04 had 241 castings
02-04 Z06 had 243 castings and I'm pretty sure so did 01.

Stainless steel exhaust manifolds for 97-00, then cast manifolds for 01-04. (slightly better flow from cast iron and better durability) Pre-cats or pup-cats on west coast delivery 00s and all 01s. (pre/pup cats result in loss of approximately 5 hp.) Already noted, that 01-04s have LS6 intake manifold. (gain of 5-10 hp over LS1 intake)

Good point! I was thinking in terms of port shape/flow, and forgot that early versions had different valve cover mounts.
