Default check engine light

I have and 03 automatic c5. I put a vara ram and flowmasters on it. My check engine light came on while i had it at the track. It is still under warranty so I took it to the dealership. They said the motor is taking in to much air bc of the vara ram and it is leaning the motor out. They said the only way to fix it is to take the vara ram off or buy a diff maf. But if I buy another maf, it will void that part of the warranty and so will dyno tuning it. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Do remember hitting the rev limiter at the track? THAT will lean the engine out momentarily and throw those codes.

The dealer is full of crap... They haven't any idea why the lean codes were thrown, so they followed your lead when you mentioned to Vara Ram...

Yes I did hit the rev limiter. So do you think I should just leave it on there? What do I need to do to get the problem fixed? Thanks for your help

Start here:

http://97vette.com/howto/codes/index.html

Follow the procedure for bringing up the code and post the info back here. There are a number of things that can bring about a CEL. Many are harmless. Once we have the codes we can help you diagnose and fix the problem.

Most of the codes on that list should apply to your 2003. If there is a serious problem It will show up again after you clear the codes. Try that first and see what comes up next...
Good luck

There is NOTHING wrong with your car.

Follow this procedure to see the codes.
Turn the key to the ON position, but don't start the engine.
Clear any present messages by pressing the RESET button.
Hold the OPTIONS button down, and press the FUEL button 4 times.
This will get you into the CODES section of the DIC.
The computer will automatically display all the codes your car has created.
It will cycle through each code every 3 seconds.
Any code that ends in H is a history code (something that has occurred in the past) but is fine now.

Once the computer has finished going through all of it's codes, press RESET to enter Manual Configuration mode.
It should start with a module and show "NO CODES" or "# CODES".

Do this then to reset and clear all codes.
To optionally reset the codes once in manual mode, press and hold RESET until it displays "NO CODES".
Press OPTIONS to go to the next module.
Repeat the steps in this paragraph until you have reset the codes in all the computer modules.

The lean codes are 1071 & 1074. You'll see them scroll through when in the PCM module.

Just clear em all, the Check Engine light with go out and all will be fine

We know you don't know. We want you to follow the procedure and read them so you can tell us what they are. Help us help you. Most of the codes (read 99 percent) from the '97 - '00 will apply to your '03.

The following web site has the DTCs specific to each model year. After selecting your model year, click on READ MORE toward the bottom of the next page that appears to review all the codes for your model year.

If there is an H after the code it means it is History...don't worry about it. If it has a C then it means it is current and the problem is ongoing.

If you hit the rev limiter and leaned out the engine, it will throw those codes MOST of the time. You hurt nothing and the codes will not return if you do not hit the limiter again.

Your problems will most likely be over with.

When you reset the codes, the Check Engine light will go off. If it does not return, you're in the clear. I'd be willing to bet it will NOT return.

Can't hurt to have it tuned and you didn't tell us if the codes are current (C) or old (H).

Have it dyno tuned. I had the exact same issues with my halltech stinger when I would drag race mine. I would only get the codes at the track (never on the street). The tune will give you better performance and you can get the shifts firmed/speed up. It adds a great deal to A4's
