Before you get too carried away, have you tried a lens-cleaning kit (CD)? You can buy them almost anywhere for just a few bucks. It can't hurt to try, and it's not bad to have anyway.
If you buy a brand new unit it has the Theftlock disabled.
I just purchased one and i asked same question.
I paid $550 for a new stock CD and that was the wholesale price....dealer wanted as much as $1300

Thanks for the info. I have run my lens cleaner through it, but it's several years old, and didn't help much. I think I'll pick up a new one and try it. I'd love to keep the original unit, especially if a new one is $550-$1300.
I've also heard people suggest that blowing in the CD slot with a can of compressed air will help, maybe I'll try that as well.
Has anyone had any luck taking the unit out and disassembling/cleaning it?
The CD player in my 2000 will more often than not start to skip and will sometimes read "ERR" usually causing the CD to be ejected.
That doesn't look too bad, so I keep looking around and start finding references to the theftlock feature.
So I guess my questions are:
How do I tell if the theftlock feature has been activated by the PO?
Can I somehow get the code from the CD player if it has?
If I buy a replacement, what should I be aware of regarding the theftlock?
Also if anyone has had any luck fixing these, please let me know.
Thanks!
Witj the ignition OFF and TheftLock turned ON ... there will be a red LED blinking on the face of the radio. If TheftLock is OFF, the LED will not blink.
