I just got some new Custom Floor Mats in and they fit the wells fine, but the stock factory carpet cleats don't mate up with the new mat grommets. Can these cleats be repositioned or is it return the mats time?
On my Z, the plastic retainers are just clipped to the carpet in slits that are there to accept them - so in order to move them, you would have to put slits in the carpet in the new location -
What brand of mats do you have that do not line up?
If they are Lloyds or Stratmosphere, they are not cut right for your car - I have both kinds and they both fit perfectly.
JDs00PewterCoupe - My Z is a 2002, so GM might have changed the way these clips are mounted at some point. I only have experience with 2002, 2001 and 1999 models in regard to aftermarket floor mats.
For the relative cost of mats i would go with the Lloyds or something made specifically for a C5 and they should fit the holding tabs. The Lloyds also go under the seat which is nice too. Corvettes of Huston is where i got mine. Nice heavy mat too.
The Lloyds I had up until today were a perfect fit. Just got some new custom mats in from CarMotorsports - passenger side is fine but grommets in driver's side are way off. Just was hoping there was an easy way to fix it on my end. Driver's mat is a good fit if I ignore the grommets and the embroidery looks great.
They are snapped in place through two slits in the carpet.
Remove by prying up on them in the middle and they will pop loose.
The hook on one of mine broke and I had to replace it. $4.11 at the Stealership.
IMHO I'd return the mats and get ones that fit so you don't have to cut up your carpet.
I just spoke with Rich and they are taking care of the issue - sending a replacement set. These are worth the wait though - very well made other the the grommet glitch.
