I was getting my new '98 nassau blue C5 tinted last week when I was offered a kit for the front end and wheel openings to prevent rock chips in the paint. the car's paint is in great shape save for a couple of small areas that need chip repair and I'm considering doing this since I spend alot of time on the highway and want to preverve the paint. It's a garaged car so fade is not that much of an issue. Anybody use one with success and is it worth the $400?

It will definitly help preserve the paint, what ever hits it will ahve to go thru that first, that stuff is pretty thick.
I would say maybe if it was made by 3M, But I myself would use the extra money towards more power.
Well I noticed the oil pressure dip down to 23psi while it was hot in traffic and it's got a lifter tick. Lucky I guess nobody bought my '98 SS LS1 engine, it's got 320 miles on it. So when I pull the engine to fix that and the pilot bearing noise, I'm just going to put a new engine in it at a minimum, though I'd rather put in an LS2 block with the L76/L92 deal... Makes me worry about mileage though. It's so good right now I dont want to ruin it.
Either way it'll get at least some power goodies with it's 10 year 'freshening up' It's never been repainted so I really dont want to mess it up with all the highway driving it's liable to get. And yeah it'll be 3M. It's getting ready for a new GM window motor and a shift boot as well. Gotta keep it nice!

I put the 3M on those places and a few more. Have them do the rockers and door sills too. I live on a short dirt road and with 32K miles it still looks like new.
The 3M stuff is great - I have it on another car. Come spring Im going to put it on my vette. The kits are computer cut to match the car perfectly. Its worth the money to have a real good installer. Just make sure he is using the 3M stuff.
I've had it on my 98 for about 1 1/2 years and think it's great. The front end still looks brand new and its got 30k on it. I think I paid around 500 for the kit and installation. I got the kit from www.clearmask.com.

The 3M clear film is good - have seen it on a few cars and it is barely noticable and the owners report it does a great job protecting the car. It is expensive though.

I have almost 61K and no issues...
BTW, the film has no UV filters, so the paint color fades evenly (That's what the product description said at least)
