Looking for some advice and hoping some of you can give me some input. I was wondering if putting DOT 4 brake fluid into my Z06's brake system when its had DOT 3 the whole time and it clearly states on the servicing cap to put DOT 3 into it.
I've got a few bottles of unopened DOT 4 from my other car I sold and I was going to drain and flush the brake system with DOT 4 when I'm due to change my brake pads and or rotors.
DOT 3 or 4 is just fine. DOT 3 is the minimum. I used Castrol Synthetic until I started tracking my car. Now I run Motul RBF600 in it year round. No problems.
While you're doing the flush. Do the clutch reservoir drain, clean, fill. Whatever you have that you are using for the brake fluid use for the clutch.
^Yep. When I switched over to Dot 4 for the first time. I did a tech II bleed and got all of the old fluid out. Have used the dot 4 for brakes and clutch as well. Don
DOT 3 or 4 is good. If you track the car, you should use one of the racing fluids with a very high dry and wet boiling point. For normal street driving, any good 3 or 4 works fine.
But be very careful NOT to us DOT 5, which is silicone based fluid. DOT 5 does NOT mix with DOT 3/4 fluids and you can end up with major problems if you put in DOT 5 without completely flushing old DOT 3/4 fluid and completely cleaning the system.
All, thanks for the input. I haven't looked into it but is the cluch servicing a tough job, do you need a pump to do the job or does it just drain out? Is it a two man job? I've always had automatics until I bought my Z06. Thanks

Easy job. There is a small reservoir next to the brake master. That's the clutch reservoir. Get syringe, turkey baster, whatever. Suck the stuff out completely. Wipe the reservoir nice and clean. Fill with fresh brake fluid. Done.

I run Castrol SRF, yeh it's pricey-but I get away with doing a Tech II once a yr, run 8 DE's a season and no brake fade, love it.
I could have swore I read somewhere that SRF is hard on magnesium. The Z06 has magnesium in the brake system. I do about 8 track events a year also and a small dose of AX. I'd love to do a full flush once a year and be done with it... I've got DRM ducts and will have spindle ducts soon. I bleed off the calipers after every event. Just an ounce or so on each wheel as I swap tires/pads around.
