Default good price?

I am looking at an silver 01 at a dealer. I did a carfax and called a chevy dealer and got all the info I could on it. It has 11,500 original miles, it is a all stock one owner car, and the only he had done for warranty was have the battery replaced so I am guessing it was not re-ringed and did not need it. They are asking $29,988, the most that I would give them is that price out the door and I am pretty sure they would go for from talking to them. Sound like a fair price? Thanks for the help.

Personally, I think you can get a better deal from buying from a seller in the sales forum...in fact, you can get an 02 cheaper than that.

there will always be a better price somewhere in the country so don't take advice to heart but use it as a guideline. Does it seem like a fair price to you? Your mechanic? reference books? Ex: KBB, etc. It seems like a fair price to me, and sometimes you have to pay a little more to get what you want. Don't wait to long though prices are starting to rise for the season. good luck

well they would not budge on the price and wanted $32710 out the door. I offered them $32000 out the door and they turned me down so I walked. I orginally only wanted to pay $30000 out the door but I stretched my self because the car was in really good condition. Oh well I will find something else.

You did exactly the right thing by deciding what your max was up front and then walking when they wouldn't deal. Congrats!

Yes, you WILL find another car, probably sooner than you think and you might like it even better, these cars aren't really that rare...

I wish I'd had your fortitude, I let emotion sway me and they ran it up the package on me a couple grand beyond what I had decided I was willing to pay, they played me well...

While I don't regret buying my car, my budget is now stretched to the max as I have about $200 a month more payment than I can really afford - no one's fault but my own.

You were smarter.

That's a little high in my opinion.

The deals are out there, you just have to find them and jump on them.

I waited a night on an '01 Z06 with 21K miles on it for $26.5K and it sold 2 hours after I looked at it.

Then today, I missed out on an '02 w/ 38K miles on it for $27.8K because some guy who showed interest in it a week before reared his ugly head and bought it even though I offered to put a deposit down on it the night before.

Keep looking, the deals are out there.

I honestly wouldn't pay over $30K for a clean '02.

Don't pay more than 28-29 (maybe) for an '01. If you do some research you can get an '02 for the low 30s. Try private party if you can, you almost always get a better deal there if you find a car thats been cared for.

Thats really what i am looking to spend and I am most likely going to buy private party, the only reason I considered it was because of its condtion, miles, and history (no problems). But I will definatley make a post with pics when I do finally pick one up! And I still need to sell my 03 Cobra, anyone looking for a cobra?

Here's another example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250093112977

Yeah, it's SleezeBay, but 25K for a 42K mile '01 is about the norm for "good deals" that are out there. Just a matter of traveling.

I realize that owners want to "wish" their cars value maintained, but with the C6s out and about used, I think the market price for C5s is going to drop a lot more rapidly then it has been.

Unfortunately, I'm buying a C5 Z06 now, value drop be damned. ;-)
