Default Squeaking noise under hood..

It's been doing it for a while, finally took it to the chevy dearlership today & asked them what it could be. I need a new serpentine belt, mines pretty bad

Ordered a new AC belt to, might as well change both at the same time and no, the stealership isn't doing it - what a joke on the price they wanted to install it

Installing tomorrow

I had this same problem and Had a whole bunch of parts replaced before the squeak was located and fixed!

1. Alt replaced
2. serp belt replaced
3. ac belt replaced

gm tech put wrong alt on now causing a squeak and vibration

4. correct alt put on

In the end it was the harmonic balancer pulley bearings that caused the squeak!

Good luck and I HOPE YOU DONT HAVE TO TRAVEL TO THE DEALERSHIP 7 TIMES LIKE i DID

Oh yeah, there are a few things that will/do cause a heck of a squeak from under that "pretty little hood of yours"!

Harmonic balancer - Check
Tensionser - check
Other tensioner - check
Alternator bearings - check
Water pump - Less likely to cause squeal because if it's squealing that bad, it's likely leaking - Check

All good stuff to check out while your under there... Good to know it will be 60 some degrees tomorrow huh!! Hey... Bikini weather!! Wow am I an old fool tonight or what???

virtual geezer just posted up what caused his to squeek. i'll try and get the pic for ya.

but seriously. a stephascope from the hardware store is cheap and will help pinpoint the problem to a small area. you want the stephascope that has an open end. if you need to you can put a cut cheap plastic pen in the end instead. its a point and listen kinda thing

I use a long handled screwdriver to do this very same thing... It works great!! But get a LOOONNNGGGG one... to keep you from leaning into something that will catch you and pull you into a spinning part!!

Gatorbacks, that's what I went with - both belts under $50 Since Mike lives in IL - It's a little hard for him to come down & fix it - my friend who owns the black semi truck is going to replace them

Thanks for the offer thou

As mentioned above, Gatorback is the only way to go. Heck I never even used the Gates belt that came with my supercharger. I went with Gatorback for my blower

2 tensioners, 2 idler pulleys; one on each system

any C5 that is typically older than 5/50k can/will make noise from any one of the 4 pulleys, they often wear and get grooved badly(a/c)

I wish I had words to thank you for everything you have done for me Oak. Yes, I was jumping up and down when you asked me "How much fuel pressure do you want?"

Now I am hurting from all the jumping around! Its a good pain though

Thank you once again
