Most places mentioned have the gray 3M tape, which is fine, but it is a little thicker and therefore more challenging to cut if applying to intricate emblems.
NAPA has the thinner black double sided tape. It's about 1/2" wide. I used it to attach the running deer C-pillar emblems on my '96 Impala SS after three failed attempts with the gray tape. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...S/DSC00003.jpg
Go to a automotive paint and body shop supplier - - - buy the 3M Black Part # 051131 / 06383 Automotive Acrylic Plus Black Attachment tape - - While you're at it also get some 3M Part #06396 Automotive Adhesive Promoter. I guarantee it will stay put. I tried some of that thinner stuff from NAPA and it would not hold.
