A Scissors Lift with a 48 inch rise will work nicely. Will cost about $1700 shipped. If you get the right one you will be able to move it around by hand on a dolly that comes with the lift. I can sit on my roll around seat and work under the front and rear of my Z and I can change wheels and do brake and suspension work. Can work on catback but cannot do the mid pipe since the lift gets in the way.
When you aren't using it park a car over it.

Are you looking for something to occasionally work under or to stack cars? I have (2) Bend Pak's in my garage that work very well for storage and as a working lift. They make smaller lifts that work well in smaller garages with the big exception being ceiling height, I have 10' ceilings and this would probably be the minimum, You may want to check out Bend-Pak's website as they have many different options and they give you spec's for room sizes too. Good Luck

I have a scissor lift in my garage. It's a Snap-On lift that I bought used from a local garage that was going out of business. It has a 9000 lbs. capacity and is very stable. As noted, the only drawback is the solid deck in the middle of the car. But when I have to work in that area under the car, I just put the car on 4 heavy duty jack stands. The lift drops down flat and I can work underneath with no problem. It's a heck of a lot easier than trying to jack the car up and put it on jack stands. For routine stuff like changing tires, bleeding the brakes, changing pads and rotors, doing engine fluids, tranny, differential fluids, other routine stuff, it's great. Takes me about a minute to set the lifting pads, hit the button and get the car up in the air. Since I don't have the height in the garage for a two or four post lift, this is the absolute best alternative.
In this last week, there's been two KWIKLIFT drive on lifts for sale by members...one red and one black. They don't have hydraulics, but they're very versatile. I own a BEND PAK HD9 personally.
I have an Eagle Equip lift. 9A. One thing about twin post lifts is you need at least a 10' ceiling. I built my garage with a lift in mind and made my ceiling 14'.
There are some shorter lifts as well. I personally like the 2 post articultated lifts because the bottom of the car is open and you don't have to jack up the axles to remove wheels like the bed rail type.
I paid $2300 for mine, but possilbly they are cheeper now.

I just bought an auto butler (back yard buddy coppy). I bought it to stack cars, my Z06 and my 66 vert. They told me I need a minimum of 9' even. The auto butler with drip pans a jacking plate and an air jack was under $3500. This type of lift can be put on dollies also so you can roll it out of the way. I got a yellow one to match my Z06.
I was thinking more along the lines of a KWIKLIFT being relatively inexpensive (especially those "used" ones being sold by CF members) compared to air/hydraulic/electric lifts...and you can park on them collapsed when not in use.
I have a Superlift, I think they are made in Wichita, Kansas. My ceilings are 10.5 feet and the Z rests on the lift. I use the lift quite a bit as I'm the family mechanic and have two sons with lots of friends with cars in need of repairs.

Sorry, this is the best I could find to match the one I got, mine is used, only paid $400 for it from a body shop.
Yes I have done several Exhaust project on it, as well as brakes, suspension etc, for a short ceiling this is just right.
With the 2x12 added I have put several lowered C5 on it, and Camaro's C3 C2 fit great
