I was talking to a guy who works at AutoZone about the PCV problem on LS1s and the catch can fix. He said that he has run the PCV into the exhaust to cure this problem before.
I haven't found anything online about doing this. Is this even an option? Has anyone done this in the past?
this sounds like a horrible idea, especially if you have cats
my experiences thus far have lead me to not to listen to the people at parts store chains if they are younger than 45 (99% of them). Every store seems to have 1 guy who knows his stuff and not so secretly hates all the kids that work there with him and try to sell everyone LED shift ***** and 4 pronged spark plugs.
Yeah I usually don't listen to these guys either. However I do like new ideas about PCV valves. I told him about the cats too and he said the cats are so hot it would burn it up.
I would never do anything out of the ordinary without hearing from actual owners on the forum anyway.
Thanks.
I think what the guy might be referring to is a racing trick...crankcase ventilation system...it uses the evacuation of the headers under high rpm to scavenge the crankcase gases from the engine. Street driven cars probably don't benefit from this idea.
Do an internet search under "exhaust scavenging" and you'll find plenty to read.
Do a search in JEG'S or SUMMIT RACING under "crankcase ventilation system" for after market companies (MOROSO, MR. GASKET) that sell the system components. It consists of valve covers breathers and one way check valves similar to the oem air pump air valves.

I did the Moroso system on my 74 Z28 around 1976. The valve covers had no baffles and under full throttle acceleration it looked like a crop duster going down the road.
