Default 03 Z $$$?

I have a person wanting to trade his loaded, 03 Z06, w/ 98 miles on the clock, for a car I have. [Valued at 65-75K]. His current "offer" is his car, and 10K...
He's telling me he paid $52,000 for the car, including a $5k dlr markup. The car has not been driven since he brought it home, thus, the "no mile" deal.

I'd very much like to have the Z, but I surely can't see putting 53K into it.
I've looked at used Z's, seen prices from 30k to outrageous. I found that "private seller" pricing is in the lo/mid 30's.
After having said all that, would someone in the "know", clue me in as to what would be a reasonable price for this car??

TIA,

Depends on how you value cars. If it is indeed a perfect car as the mileage would indicate, the valuation would be considered near sticker by some people. I certainly wouldn't include any dealer markup. What you have to ask yourself and not us is what is it's value to you.

IMHO, a car that has been sitting, unused, for 4 years, is no bargain. Other than driving it home, did he do anything to prepare the car or the engine for storage? Probably not. Not a good thing. I'd have the car checked out by a reputable dealer first, make sure the engine had not been compromised by sitting that long. You might buy it and find you need rings in a couple of thousand miles, or other problems.

I'd say if the car checks out, $35K to $38K sounds fair. A "no miles" car is not a collectible, unless you plan on keeping it that way for the next 20 years or so. My $.02.

A friend of mine has had 4 or 5 vettes over the years. He loves them. Last year, he bought a 2002 z06 with 1,200 miles on it for $38,000. This car had been driven a few miles each month. I saw it and rode in it. It was a good one, no scratches, no chips, always garaged in a temperature controlled unit.

$35k to 38k seems about right to me. I buy and sell a lot of passenger cars, usually much cheaper, but I have a pretty good feel for pricing.

This is the input was looking for. A car to me, is something to drive, and enjoy.. Not park in my home's solarium, and look at while drinking my Am coffee...Having said that, I guess the "collector status" would be gone in the first month, and a 1000 miles!
That puts the car's value right where I was going to put my offer..$32-35K.
The "sitting around" thing has shown up on the turbo Buicks I've worked on.. Dead hoses, hard seals, oil leaks, all showed thier ugly presence, once the cars were driven.

GOOD advice. Thanks to all who contributed. I will compose an e-mail reflecting my thots,....

BTW, the car in question is a fresh, 6T5 Ply Belvedere 1, HEMI car...

The guy selling the Z is delusional

He paid the premium.

You can find a used Z for less, but probably not with that mileage.

The Z isn't a collectors car yet, so don't pay collectors price.

If you still want to spend that much, I'll sell you my 03 with 6kmi and it has a maggie.

I'd like to put a different twist on your purchase/trade.
If you find you just HAVE to have his Z06, why sell yours? Why not have BOTH? Buy his for a fair price ($35,000 to $39,000), and keep yours. If you HAVE to sell yours, do it outright at a price that YOU want.

However, I personally favor having BOTH.

i dunno man, ive heard bad things about cars with that low of mileage. siting that long without the engine running or driving it cant be good for any of the components.

Actually you're wrong.
He's out of my price range but he does quite well for himself.

TIA,
I saw an add last Sept. for a 2003 w/ 9k miles for $33k at CarMax.
I paid $31.5 for my '02 w/ 13.7 k mi, w headers, priv. sale, and because it was the right color combo (just how I would have ordered it from factory).

Like you said, low mid 30's. 34-35 tops. That's IF it checks out--personally, I wouldn't buy one with that mileage because of the possiblity of oil leaks, etc.
