check if your interior temp guage is working and is accurate. if not, then the Ac unit thinks its too cold and it will not engage. if the guage is not working , you have to replace the external ambient temperature sensor. (7 bucks for the part)
Could be a lot of things, but mine was doing that and it turned out it was just a schrader (sp?) valve that was leaking out the refrigerant. Got a new valve, a recharge, and all has been well. Local dealer did it (under GMPP warranty)

Can you offer some more information on the location of the sensor, a part number for a new one, or some search terms for me to dig around for? I checked General and Tech for "external ambient temperature sensor" with no real success.
The external temperature reading on my A/C display is significantly lower than actual ambient temp. This is going to be a problem in the summer down here when it's 100F and the A/C won't kick on because the external temp is reading as ~50F off.
