Default Rear window trim

On my 04 Z, the black trim strip around the rear window is slightly raised in a couple of places. I'm guessing that the window is glued in place or held in by a rubber gasket, and the trim strip is nothing more than a cosmetic piece to hide the edge of the window. Is this indeed the case? Should I remove it and try to replace it in an attempt to get it flush all the way around? Is it easy to do so, or should I just leave it alone? I saw a post by Bill Dearborn in which he said it is attached using xmas trees. I hate those things, since they are a pain to keep intact, and I don't want to make things worse by pulling them out and breaking them. If someone is familiar with this item, I'd love some feedback.

Thanks

The same thing happened on my Z16 at the bottom center. It was pulling free. I brought it back to dealership. They had a mindow company come by and reseal the black rubber trim inplace. Looks like new.

Mine is at the bottom in two places. I'm amazed that it had to be resealed by a window place. You'd think the dealer could have done that themselves. I also figured it was pushed into place, but now it sounds likes it is held in using a sealer/adhesive. I'll have to check with one of the window companies around here. Thanks for the info

My '03 has the same problem. When I bought the car a few months ago, I had the service history pulled and it indicated the rear defroster grid had been worked on. I guess the rear window was removed and I attribute the "loose" trim to a poor re-install. At some point, I may try to have it re-done so it's more flush. It's only in a few places and just a minor annoyance

Yep, if it's only a trim strip, then it isn't a big deal. However, if it helps seal the window, then obviously it has to be dealt with. I'm guessing it really is cosmetic, but I can't be sure. I've rinsed my car off with a hose a couple of times and it's been in the rain a few times, with no leaks. The only effect I saw was that if you pressed on the raised part, you would get a drop of water squeezing out. I don't think it's a problem, but I do want to take care of it. I can take it to the dealer under warranty, but I'd rather do it myself. I never trust anyone to work on my cars unless I have to.

Thanks

Keith
