Default Auto vs 6 speed

Well right now im in the market for a 6 speed, but im seeing alot of good deals on auto's. First how much slower is the auto than the 6 speed for 0-60 and 1/4 mile and how would you guys rate the auto's. Im looking to mod the car after I buy it.

Drive both and decide what you like better. If an M6 is really what you want dont settle for an A4. You will always feel like you missed out.

The right car will come along, just be patient.

Stock for stock, the MN6 is faster. But who keeps their car stock?

I bought an MN6 because I like the control and its just my preferrence. You would more likely find me at an autocross type event than a drag race.

Since you plan on modding, and straight line speed seems to be a selling point for you, keep in mind some of the fastest 1/4 mile cars out there are autos.

A tune can make noticable improvements to an A4 in a corvette.

Oh, boy... here we go again...

They are both great transmissions. Get the one you would rather drive.

I waited for my 6 speed and am happy I did. They are more desireable cars according to many members. Performance wise, you have to be a very good driver to utilize a 6 speed whereas you just floor it with the auto. A good driver in an auto will beat a not so good driver in a 6 speed. A good driver in a 6 speed will always beat a good driver in an auto. This is true if both cars are stock. If you get an auto make sure it has the 3.15 gears. The 2.73s are dogs.

Just depends on where you live and what your doing with it. Got tired after 3 years of the constant stops/starts in heavy traffic with the M6 WS6, so when I went looking for a DD corvette, I looked for an auto.

alot of people say "here we go again" no offense, but every day there is a newcomber to the "corvette experience" so go easy. I love the manual, it's what a sports car should be IMHO, but alot of peeps like auto, what suites yor needs, the mn6 is awesome, don't worry so much about speed, are you going to race it? the stick is way more fun to drive, are you really worried about a tenth or two?

Drive them both and make your decision. You will be pleased with your choice because it's a C5.

A Vette is a Vette, I have the A4, just did not want to shift in traffic, when I get the second one it will be MN6.

I bought my A4 for a REALLY good deal with low mileage and all options minus the gears. Been a fun car, but I've been itching for a 6spd ever since I got it. My turbo nissan and RX7 have been more fun because of the clutch. So, I've sourced all the 6spd parts and the rear end to switch mine over, and it'll be an A4 --> MN6 before summer. If I hadn't gotten such a good deal on it, and gotten so attached to this particular car, I would have sold it to get an MN6. But alas, since I'm modding, she's going to get an LS7 clutch, the hardened output shafts, C6 Z06 shifter, and C6 **** at the same time.

Get what you want. If you think you'd want an Mn6, don't settle on an A4 unless you think you can live without the shifting. Because you'll regret it otherwise.

The last manual I had was in a BMW and I got rid of the car because I was tired of shifting. For me, its automatic or nothing.

You know,
I was exactly the same, must have a 6sp.
To be honest, I diden't even consider an auto.
What did I get, an AUTO.
let me tell you, forget the 6sp.
Just get you an auto, all that crap about the auto's being slower, . . . . . bull crap.
For general round town highways, interstates, dragstrips, the auto is the ONLY one I would consider.
You will certainly discover the convienience of the auto, at your first traffic jam.
I am sure you will get more traffic jams than drag races.
I got the auto, and in Houston, i never regret it for one minute

It really does depend on how you're going to use the car. If it's a DD I would go for the A4. I really only use mine on the weekend. I'm partial to the six speed, after all, my vette is my toy and i like playing with it.
