Just got my new 2003 Z06 2 weeks ago. When I bought it I knew it had a couple of scuff marks on the nose from what looks like bra that a PO had on the car.
I've been working it now and then, coming back to it ever few days with Meguiar's Scratch X. Not real impressed with this stuff. I thought for sure I would be able to buff out the worst one which is a right above the nose emblem. While I has gotten smaller, it's still there and I'm the **** type.
Do you have have any suggestions? Should I just keep working it with Scratch X or are there other products I could try? How scary is wet sanding?
scratch x takes a lot of elbow grease to work. its possible just harder to do. You will be better off with some 3m products. Also You may want to invest in a dual action Buffer. Not the walmart kind. Do a search for porter cable(pc) in the detail section and you will get all the info you need. Its a great beginners tool. You can't hurt the paint with one of those. It also makes detailing a breeze. Here some pics of my car just after polishing and no wax or sealant yet.
Its easy just ask some questions in the detail section adn they will get you set up very easily.
You might need something more aggressive than Scratch X. I know Meguiars makes some compounds that are more aggressive. On their web site, you can see the Mirror Glaze product line that includes Fine, Medium and Heavy Cut Cleaners.
These will get pretty aggressive! You should start with the least most aggressive product necessary to do the job.
I agree that you should obtain the dual-action random orbital buffer. It's a phenomenal product, and you really can't destroy your car with it. And if there's anyone on the planet who could do it, it would be me!
I've used this on both of my Corvettes (my '67 and my '00) and I will be continuing its use on my '01, not to mention on my wife's trucks.
