Shorty Antenna, man that's hard. You're going to need to ship your PCM out and get it re-tuned, you're going to lose 50HP if you don't screw it on the right way.
Well thanks for the non smart @$$ comments. But I was told that I would need to take the motor out? Just wondering. I'm not a know it all like some people on here. thanks
Antenna motor that is!!!

You might have thought to state that you were replacing the motorized antenna with a shorty. Not many people go that direction. Not sure why anyone would, either.
See, you didn't specify convertible and most don't look up your profile to try to help, so you got the wrong answers. The only cars that have the unscrew type are the FRC/Z06. The coupe is integrated into the glass. To replace your antenna with a shorty, you'll have to remove your antenna and mounts and replace the entire ***'y with the FRC type. I'm not sure why you'd want to either, unless you broke your current antenna shaft and don't want to replace it.
do rod style antennas (shorty or otherwise) provide better or worse reception than the window style antennas on coupes?
Depends on where its cut....
What will decrease the effectivness of an antenna is its ability to pick up radio waves of a specific wave amplitude...
Antenna lenghts are set for the "average" amplitude their expected to recieve too short or too long you degrade the antenna performance...
So considering that GM made the stock antenna at a specific lenght for a reason...What I tell people who are consdering cutting their stock antenna mast (vs buying a shortie) is to cut in whole 1/2 fractions of their full antenna lenght..
ie..if your antenna is 36in long then you should cut at 18in or 9in ( 9 being 1/2 of 18) dont just eye ball it
