Default 3 in a vette "illegal"

I just called the Illinois State Police and they said it is illegal for my 5 year old son to sit on my wife's lap (with seat belt on and air bag off) to go for a ride in our vette. Has any of you done this and have you ever been pulled over by the police? If so what happened?

Forget the ticket, that's downright dangerous.

I have been in the same situation before and no problems

The girls were 24 and 22 if that makes a difference

The Corvette is a one passenger vehicle. With the current scrutiny in IL I would highly recommend you not do this. They may even go at it as child endangerment??? I understand your situation 4 and 9 year olds,I have taken my youngest in booster and restraint but only around the subdivision. By the way, I think 16 LEO's out of 98 homes

Yes it is, it is a two passenger car. If you buy a car and it says it is a 5 passenger can then you can't have 6 people in it.
And it is a very dumb thing illegal or not to have a child sit on someone's lap, they need to be in their own car seat of if big enough to have their own seat belt.

Dont think it makes a difference, the two riding in mine at the time were a few years younger than that.

Then I guess 9 passengers (all female and adults and single) would be jail time??? It was like trying to see how many people you could get into a phone booth. It was a 73 coupe, we made a one block square at approximately 5 mph.

My two grandkids fit well in the passenger seat of my C5. I also take them in my 1960's Plymouth, that has no seatbelts.

I am sure the two girls in the passenger seat woulda got me busted if I got caught, but then again cops in Chicago don't seem to care much about the rules of the road, except on LSD

Sounds really dangerous - even if completely stopped.

If the sun comes out this week, my granddaughter gets her first ride - but in a booster - and with the airbag off.

Seriously, three are too many when moving. Crazy things happen on the roads when it is least expected. I find that some real idiots want to pass a Vette at any speed and risk to themselves and others in the area.

If someone would be sitting with a child in their lap, seatbelt over them both and chrash, that person would crush the child

Not surprising in this day and age....it is dangerous. I remember the days of small kids and our first 1980 RX-7. They used to sit on the shelf behind the two seats and go to the drive in movies. When they got sleepy they just curled up in the back and went to sleep! After surviving those normal (for the time) days they are both responsible adults now.
