Default So Cal Owners - Help Please

Hey guys. I know this thread will probably get moved to regional but I am in need of advice from you vette guys in So Cal so perhaps you mods can give me a minute here...

I just bought a car from out of state (CTSV) and the car has Kooks long tubes on it and is otherwise stock. Should pass sniffer but may fail visual. I am in San Diego but willing to drive anywhere as I do not have the stock parts.

Please either chime in or PM me if you have any suggestions. I would really appriciate any help here.

Sorry, I just lost my guy to a motorcycle fatality. He was doing it for me for $150.

I did start asking around again and I found that the guys that work at places like "EZ-Lube" have connections with guys at inspection satations. They may be able to send you in the right direction.

I'm moving back to NJ in two weeks so I stopped looking into it here in CA.

Good luck!

Ive always thought that if you could find some podunk town WAY outta town that youd have a better chance of passing the visual

Ive got nothing to back this up but its just been a nagging thought

check over at LS1.com in the western forum...you might get lucky

I had a shop pass me on the sniffer and told me I would fail on the visual... didnt charge me and didnt submit my info to the DMV... took the car to 4 more shops and they all said I would fail. Now granted I told them what the problem was so who knows if I would have. But at $50 a pop, and 5 or 6 shops later it adds up...

how rediculous is it that it passes the sniffer and not the visual... doesnt make any sense..

thanks for the responses, I have checked over ls1tech but those guys dont seem to be as helpful as you all.. i will get lucky one of these days, just need someone to steer me in the right direction

These shops actually looked under the car and said "shouldnt there be 4 cats and where is the carb number?" unreal... one lady even tried to tell me my intake wasnt carb legal.... which is def not true... I mean its an 04 CTSV, who would even look under this car? Cat back is stock, sounds like a Prius....

You must have a speed shop or two in SD, I would start checking with them and make some new friends. I like the idea posted above about checking a small town somewhere. Find a Hot Rodder on the street somebody knows somebody that does. Good Luck! The answers are out there!!

I do have a guy here in OC that might be able to help, but I don't know how receptive he would be that doesn't come from a personal reference. Would you want to drive this far? Maybe a local tuner in your area might be able to help??

I have been calling a lot of places. Hard to get a good answer over the phone. Everyone thinks you are Johhny Law or something.

I drove an hour north last weekend because some guy said he had a guy who would do it.... well the guy was like "yeah it passes but no carb number" which is exactly what we told him was the problem so...

I would drive to San Fran if I thought I could pass. Do you guys know if you have to do the emissions in the same county or not? I would definately drive to OC, only like an hour. I just don't know if I can run emissions there.
