The general consensus, from what I read, is that all after-market intakes are better than stock air box, and the differences among the many are relatively small.
That being the case, overall look of the installed intake may play a part in my (down the road) decision to purchase one.
So, post your pictures of your installed intake, and if you've experienced more than one type, feel free to comment on your preference.
Thanks.
I just installed my FIPK today and the install was really easy. I did not cut the shroud like the instructions say and it fits fine. From what I can tell it is basically the same as the Halltech stinger. Here is a pic...
In reality the fit/finish/form/functionality/performance between the different intakes vary drastically. You are going to get a thousand opinions here - but I ended up with the Callaway Honker (and obviously think it's the best)...
Haltech Stinger here too. Came in the trunk when I bought the car. My install post disappeared into the archives. Car idled rough when I first installed it. Let it warm up and took it on a gentle 20 mile ride to let the comuters learn it. Was running smooth after a mile or two. I think it gives a little more reposonsiveness but a new stock filter may have done the same.
I've had the BPP Vortex on one car and now have the Callaway Honker on my present Z06. The Vortex worked fine with no problems but is not the easiest when it comes to cleaning maintenance. The Honker has been proven to be one of the best in adding hp. I've had not one negative issue in installing it on my car, it works perfectly, as advertised. It has an OEM quality look to it and is super easy when it comes time to clean the filter. The Green filter it comes with is probably the best you can buy, based on testing I witnessed.
I had a BLACKWING, "cold air" cover over an open shroud, over sized air bridge, silicone couplers, T-bolt clamps, yada, yada...and got intermittent codes related to lean banks. It looked great, but function is my goal.
I sold the system and returned to the oem '04 Z06 intake on my Z16.
I opened up the original opening from 10 square inches to 22.5 square inches and used an SLP smooth coupler from the throttle body. I dropped in a new K&N filter. It runs and sounds like the CAI system and I get no codes.

I have a Halltech carbon fiber TRAP on my Z06 - this is the system that puts the air filter behind the license plate area in the front fascia.
With the stock screens on the Z06, this is supposed to give a nice "cold-air" intake charge.
I love the light weight, jewel-like finish and "no-cut" installation.
I don't like having to retrieve the air filter from under the front fascia when it needs serviced - however the filter only needs cleaned at 40k or so intervals in my area.

On my wifes 99 coupe, I have the twin-ram setup.
I like this system for the ease of install - also "no-cut" installation, and this one is easy to get to the filters when necessary.
I have not had anything to dislike about this system.

Reason: I wish I could type and spell.
A carbon airbridge (w/ neato Z06 logo ) and a Blackwing with the "carbon" cold aircover - never had any code/tuning issues (running my own slightly tweaked tune).
