Bull, Go ahead and Lowr it! Just lowered mine today and the shake at idle is gone! I took it down as far as the the stock adjustments allow front and rear and the really now is PLANTED. The adjust. lowered the front 1/2" and the rear 3/4".Now it doesn't look like it has 4 wheel drive.
Had mine lowered as far as possible with the stock bolts which worked out to 3/4" front and rear. Then had it realigned which most(?) experts recommend. I can't tell any handling difference on the street, but it sure looks better to my eye.
You really don't want to do this. You will scrap and rattle all over the place.
You have a classic, don't destroy it.
Ack! I couldn't DISagree with this more! (Isn't America great?! :flag ) Yes, you WILL scrape on some inclines -- but what you'll be scraping is the rubbery/plastic flexible airdam under the nose, which is not a big deal. I have my '01 lowered @ 2", and I scrape from time to time. But since the airdam pieces are so flexible, I don't even see any wear.
Also, my car simply doesn't rattle. Does anyone's? These cars are tight! Simply no rattling of any kind before/after lowering.
Finally, lowering your car is TOTALLY REVERSIBLE (even if you cut the front bushings, you could replace the bushings -- but it sounds like you're just asking about using the stock bolts for lowering anyway). If you lowered your car, and you didn't like something about it, you can raise is right back up. You'll NOT be destroying your car.
I say go for it! The improvements in handling and looks will amaze you!
