Default seat backs

The seat backs in my 99 move forward about 8 to 10 inches if I just push them, shoudn't they be locked in place so they don't move unless you press the seat back release?

Hm I know theres an issue with the bottom of the seat sliding, but Im not sure about the backs... Maybe check the joints to make sure they arent worn or have stuff stuck in them

If i stop agressively, the passenger seat back rotates forward about 8 inches...this is normal. There is a certain point at which it no longer rotates and thats when you need to use the lever on the back of the headrest....take notice that if you pull that lever and rotate the seat fully forward and then let go of the lever, the seatback will not rotate back by itself. It essentially is locked in the forward most position. Simply pulling the lever and pushing back on the seatback allows to to rotate all the way back again.

Normal operation. It's addressed in the manual.

What kind of shifter? If its got adjustable stops be sure to adjust them and then set the lock nuts super tight with the loc-tite...its a known problem with hursts that if not tightened, they rattle loose and instead of rattling out, they rattle in and it prevents shifting...the rear stop prevents 2 4 6 and the front 1 3 5 R...

My seatbacks on my 99 do this as well. It seems dangerous to me and I didn't see where it was addressed in the manual. I asked a similar question a few months ago and didn't really get an answer. Did any see anything about this in the manual?

Why would this be dangerous? I was just thinking about this and it doesnt seem to me that it would ever pose a problem.

During an accident, you'll move forward just as the seatback would...the seatback will then hit its stops, and you'll continue into the airbag, after you rebound off the airbag, the seatback will either be still at the stops or somewhere inbetween the stops and full back, when you hit it, it wont matter if its in any of those positions...

this is NOT the same as the rocking seat where the ENTIRE seat moves forward. i can see where that might be dangerous simply because of the dynamics involved in a moving accident where your body is pushing the seat forward and the seat moves with you instead of staying rigid...hmmmm
