Default New Mod...Which one?

If you could only choose one mod to make to improve engine output/performance, which one would it be? I have a 2001 coupe with an A4 tranny....Funds are limited...so I can only swing one thing right now...but I'd like as much bang for the buck as I can get on the first one. I currently have no mods on this baby!..But that will soon change!

Just one??!!?!

Crap this is the toughest question I've ever seen.

I guess you could start with one of the true cold air intakes. After that things start to get pricey.

Probably a VaraRam or a Calloway Honker air intake will be the best first/single mod that will add performance without breaking the bank. Of the two I'd choose the Honker. And welcome to the Forum

"FLIP-TIE"

True cold air induction. Fifty bucks. Looks good too.

First two things - Air intake and cat back exhaust. You pick which one first.

I'd suggest you drive for a little while first, then decide what your budget is (anyone that knows me knows I always am on a budget ) and exactly what you want to do. (passing along good advice that was given to me)

Check out some other vettes that are local to you and ask questions. Lots of people change their minds about a lot of things they do to their vettes, just check out the parts for sale forum and you'll see what I mean.

Good Luck

Not an easy question to answer considering the lack of information provided.

Is the Vette A4 or MN6?

What gears (especially important if it is an A4)?

Limited funds = what amount? $xx, $xxx, $xxxx

It all depends on what your "first mod" budget is. Is it $400 or $1000?

If you are only working with $400 or less, go with the Vararam and put the extra funds to the side for a catback exhaust.

The vararam will definitly give you gains with a stock exhaust, the aftermarket exhaust will give you unoticible gains, if any at all...but you will think your going much faster due to the sound your making as you get on the throttle.

Catback Exhaust= sounds great, little to no power gains
Vararam or Blackwing intake= noticible increased performance, underhood increase in sound, no change in exhaust notes.

Most folks do the catback first and the intake second. Sounding faster is always cool, going faster is even better.

Have fun!

I agree that we need more info as to what your budget is. For a relatively modest amount, get an air intake (Blackwing, Honker, Vararam, etc.). For more money, get new rear gears.

Zanesville, Ohio HuH! Hey, Hillbilly Vetteman, you could put some mudders on it, rifle rack and maybe hitch for wood hauling trailer.
Just kidding man, I'm from the Akron area myself Welcome to the forum.

Trust me. The only low $$ mod to improve performance is a cai mod. Preferably a vararam. Catbacks are for sound only. For more money, good hp makers are long tube headers, 3.42 gears, or a cam. I would personally do the gears first.

My budget is $500....I have an A4 with 3:15 rear end. The car has 30k miles on it. I was leaning toward some sort of air intake...mainly because of cost. Thanks for all the advice!
