I finally had the car service for the recall last fall. After a few hundred miles the car died and only drive a few feet, called the dealer and they said that it was a bad module and they would replace and TOW it.
I was not happy but they made good with No issues.
NOW I take it this spring same damn thing. The Dealer seems like they will make good again but..........how many bad modules am I going to get??
My question has anyone had the same issues? I have a 99 6Spd Vert.
What has been the final reslolution for those that have gotten bad modules? wait till you get a good one? is there after market ones?
Where have you been since 2004? There is almost nothing but column lock threads around here. Yes they do sell column lock bypass kits, and yes you probably need one. Run a search and you’ll find a couple days worth of reading.
I too have a '99 6 speed. One of the first mods I did was the CLB from Corvettes of Houston but before you install the CLB the steering column has to be unlocked. Once you find the right place to plug in the CLB underneath the drivers side kick panel it's straightforward. $.02 deposited
I had the same problem with modules. Have the dealer check the made date of the module. They may be using a module made before the rest of the parts they installed. My dealer in Flemington NJ was on the phone with "Detroit" for over an hour before they found the problem.
Wish I could give you more info, but that's the way it was explained to me last year.
I refuse to post any longer on this topic. If you're not aware of the CLB after being on this forum for more than 30 seconds, well nuff said.
Hey, dude...that's tacky. Do you feel the same about EBCM issues, x-pipes, wheels and tires, faulty fuel gages, oil catch cans and a host of other items? All these repeat over and over. it is your choice to not read them if they bother you.
All that was required was a patient response to the original post that he could search CLB for a host of info. No need to be insulting. We are all family here, aren't we?
CLB! i installed mine-very simple. never had the problem since. it takes the steering column lock/motor out of the loop. best 50bucks ive spent. i tried thunder racing-they were backordered(this was about 3 weeks ago), so i ordered from corvettes of houston..they always have em in stock. GOOD LUCK.

SLWRNU, there is probably NO question that hasn't already been asked on this forum. Sometimes over and over. Its real easy to just skip over them if you don't want to be bothered. I see NO reason to flame someone when they are looking for answers to problems with their car. I'm sure you've posted a question here, and I'll bet it wasn't the first time it was asked. Did you get flamed for asking it again? I'll bet not.
This forum is for people who need answers and for those who wish to be helpful. If you don't fit one of these categories feel free to NOT log in.
Does anyone know if '04's have the "recall" done from the factory, meaning after I install my CLB, and my battery voltage drops, as my battery ages, WILL I HAVE A 2 MPH CAR? MY question is does anyone know if GM included the software CYA patch "standard" in the '04 model?

If it's an auto, you're all set and don't need the CLB. If it's a manual, you're not and need the CLB.
After I posted this I did check to see what else was around on the forum and found that i missed the mother load of info on this subject.
SLWRNU...Y even make that post? Just stay out or tell me that there is better info to be found somewhere else.
Thank you everyone for your replies. SLWRNU no thanks to you.
This thread can be delete as there are better threads already started.
Yes, there is so much information out there, and so many twists to the problem that individual threads do not get the full meal deal of information. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone had the huge amount of ambition needed to create a repair flow chart listing all the variations and scenarios seen on this column lock fiasco and how to deal with each of them. Hell! They could probably sell it to GM for a pretty penny!
