Default Need help with auto shift ****

I got my leathers from redline yesterday and got everything installed, I didn't think I would be able to do it myself but it went much better than expected. My only issue is I can't get that stupid staple to go back in the shift **** all the way, its about 75-80 percent in, how do I get it to go back in flush? I have tried taping it with a hammer and the thing will not budge. Any advice from this wise forum from someone who has successfully gotten the staple back in?

It must not be sitting in the slot. Take off the ****. Coat the shifter at the top with vasoline. Put the **** back on by twisting it from side to side. It sould "pop" down in to place. Then the clip should slide right back in.

I had to put pliers on the staple ends and squeeze the prongs together a little bit.

I had the same problem so I took a waterpump pliers and squeezed it in the rest of the way. Just make sure you wrap the shifter with something to protect from the plier jaws. No need to hammer on it you might damage something else.

Default Thanks guys

the vasaline and the bending the staple to make it narrower did the trick!
