Default '01 Z06 Blinker Problem - Please help!

I'm having issues with my passenger side front blinker. It used to blink fast and erratically when the lights were off....and it didn't blink at all when the lights were on. The back blinkers blink fast with the lights on and off. When I turn on my hazards....the hazards blink fine but still no passenger side blinkers.

I got a new hazard switch and put that in...same issues except now I don't have any front passenger blinker at all. Back turn signals still blink fast. I've changed the bulbs....swapped the bulbs from one side to the other in the front and rear....same issues....drivers side blinkers still work perfectly.

The bottom filament in the passenger side blinker bulb will not light up or blink....but it is NOT the bulb itself.

The blinker light on the dash does not flash but you can hear it clicking fast. When I pulled the bulb out on the passenger side....then you can see the blinker in the car going fast.

Any ideas???

I should also add that I've had the car for around a year and the blinker has always been fast and/or not working. For the first time the other day, I flipped on the blinker and it worked normal for 2-3 seconds then right back to going fast.

Thanks for your help!!

Hi golfguy -

Check the rear sockets for moisture - they are open to the weather (essentially) and can get moisture in them in my experience.

Something to check anyway...

best regards -

Thanks mqqn, I checked them last week....all four of them....and I swapped the bulbs out. They all looked good. No luck, but thanks!

Take care,

Rick

Could be bad ground.

I had similar thing with our Pontiac. Turned out the turn signal stalk assembly was bad. $100 for assembly and 1 hour to take things appart.

Sometimes my front left running light bulb (and blinker bulb) goes out and the left interior blinker arrow of course blinks fast telling me the bulb is out. If I turn on my headlights and then off again the running light/blinker bulb stays on and all works fine. It only does this every once in a while. Go figure whats causing it, but so far it doesnt do it often enough to warrant me tracking down the problem. One time i tapped on the connection under the hood on top and tyhe bulb went on, but other times it doesnt help.

Mine's has the same exact problem, but I fixed it with what seemed to be so easy and dumb that I couldnt believe I passed up on it. I pulled the bulbs out, and they were perfectly fine, so I went out, bought new ones just in case, popped em in, and still no luck. So then I was stumped, checking with a test light, etc.. Turns out the contacts on the plug for the bulb were bad/dirty. Just took some electrical contact cleaner, sprayed some on it(make sure it says safe for plastic). Took a really small wire brush and took at it softly. Put the bulb back in and hasnt failed me for the past year already. Give that a shot. Worse case scenario, you would have to replace the plug for the bulb, which is still relatively cheap and easy!

Mine is still doing it.Mine is obviously a short at the bulb connection end of things as I can poke it with a long rod and it will go on. I just dont feel like getting to it right now.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.....no luck though....big surprise, eh? My dad rolls with the '02 Z....pretty much the same car as mine. Maybe I should just swap with him....he'll never know.

Thanks, this may be my issue as well. Anyone else have any suggestions? I may end up taking it to the dealer...

Our Pontiac had the fast erratic blinking. Turn signals seemed to work normally & couldn't find a problem with bulbs or grounds. Sometimes it would make a clicking noise without even using turn signals. I replaced the combination hazard/ turn signal flashed (looks just like the Z06) and it had no effect. When I replaced the turn signal stalk assembly it fixed problem. I did an autopsy on the turn signal stalk assembly and found broken plastic bits on the turn signal cam.
