Default rear tail light flush kit

so the $40-50 kit that makes your rear tail lights flush with the body, is that just like a big oval washer that goes around the back of the light to push i out flush?

If so, what would hurt if you just did 2 plastic washers behind each screw hole, to push the light out flush?

Just Wondering

Most of the kits I have seen are just longer screws and one inch spacer blocks behind each of the screw holes (except the outer ends - each of those is a 3/4 inch spacer). It also helps to get the rubber seal that goes around the light as well (southerncarparts on the forum has a good product to use).

And you've got the right idea. If you buy a flush mount kit you'll probably wonder why you didn't just go in the garage and find something that did the same thing. Either way you'll want the "seal" kit even more though because the spacers do not keep the light from rocking (top and bottom) in the housing if pushed.

In other words, yes you can probably make your own.

I don't have the time for garage engineering so I just bought the kit.

Do a search, someone listed out all the parts and the full DIY. It looked very simple. I like the recessed look, so I never did it. Good luck.

I bought mine off of E Bay and there isn't much to it. I have not put it on and don't think I will. If you want it, I'll send it to you for $10. including shipping.
Send me a PM if you want it.

Yup, that's me

The kit I bought had measured spacer blocks in addition to two types of stripping. Is that "better engineered"?

I cut my own spacers from polyethelene and made my own seals...

I bought the rubber seal online but it was just a rounded edge weather strip you could buy at the hardware. Bought some spacers and longer screws, works good so far.

i used md marine weatherstripping, 1.5" stainless screws with black epoxy heads, and 1" and 3/4" nylon spacers from Home Depot, after you line everything up, use some auto wash to lube the weatherstripping so it slides in, it may take a little pressure so the soap helps...here are mine....

I'm thinking "flush kit" why would someone want to "flush out" the tail lights? I though you meant like to wash them out. Ha I feel stupid!
