Default Header Ground Clearance

I did a little searching on this but there is way too many threads to go through.

I want to buy a set of headers but am not sure which ones to steer clear of because of ground clearance.

Any comments on any headers are wanted, problems or awesome clearance.

Hi Lucky C5 -

I have had LG headers on my Z for about a year now - and I have only heard the headers contact the ground 1 time - and that was a slight scrape in an area I knew I should have avoided....

My car is lowered to the stock limits BTW.....

In short - most headers will be fine, they will not significantly affect the ground clearance issues even on a lowered C5.

I chose the LG Pros after several years of careful consideration.....

best regards -

Thanks for that information.

I like to think, you get what you pay for, but that is not always the case. I was looking into a bit more inexpensive headers than LG or Kooks, but was not sure if the quality fit is there.

I had heard some guys talk about their headers hitting many times.

My car is lowered all the way on the stock bolts without cutting the bushings. I have the Texas Speed and Performance headers and I have never scrapped them. I scrape rocker panels sometimes, and it looks like the headers hang down just a tad, but I still have not scrapped them. I ALWAYS take curbs and speed bumps at an angle.

For some reason the passenger side hangs lower on mine, below the rockers even. I am slowly but surely rubbing the jet-hot coating away every time I scrape on a speedbump - especially since it hangs lower than the rocker panels.

I have sitting next to me rocker panel savers that will provide slightly less clearance for the entire car - but will put the rockers at a lower point where they will protect the headers...

oh yeah - I'm lowered on stock bolts too (post-avatar pic)...

I have LG pros and lowered on stock bolts, no cut bushings. Only scraped once on a large speed bump, never scraped since. Mine tuck up nicely only see about 1" or less of them under the car when looking at it from the rocker.

I have the Melrose Performance Smooth Flow Tri-Y (long tube) Design Headers on both of my Z06s (lowered on stock bolts). Have scrape the rockers on speed bumps but no headers/pipe as of yet.

Hi guys -

The angle is not the best for checking the clearance - but here is my LG Pro setup with off road pipes on my Z :
