Hypertech Power Programmer III ???
Anyone got the Hypertech Power Programmer and use it to make
engine run better or to give stronger shift feel to an automatic trans. ?
Does it really work or is it just mostly hype..?
Any other device out there that does something similar..?

There are many posts on this...most who want to modify more heavy prefer to have their cars tuned with a pro or using a edit program.
I like what the unit did for me...I could tell a big difference...I had already had some mods like air intake, modified mass air etc, so when I programed it ...I like what I got.
Anyone want to tell some of their custom set ups they used that worked well?

My friend and I have the exact same Vette with the same mods. (Intake,Exhaust). Except I have the program, and I drove his for the first time and I could tell a VERRRRY noticeable difference. Needless to say he is going to be getting a program as soon as the funds can afford it!

What's up with all the hate ?Also do the units lock into a car's VIN and then have to be cleared..
can you just clear it yourself..?
Also what is the business about replacement with a Hypertech
thermostat...anyone done that ?

I used on my 2006 GMC 2500 6 liter. I also threw in a K&N. It has better pull off the line @ full throttle, but I lost 1 MPG. It went from 13 mpg to 12mpg on average. It's on my work truck, so I did not have to pay for it. My verdict......Not worth the money for my truck, but maybe for the Vette.

I'd rather get a real tune. Spend the $300 and get a tune that's specifically for your car, not a generic tune. I've had too many cars get detonation from the HPP. I've seen cars pick up 8 hp on the dyno just by taking the HPP tune out and putting the stock tune back in. HPP's are good for gear changes and fan settings. That's about it. I'm speaking from experience of seeing a ton of cars with these.

Yes, the units lock the VIN in, per program. To clear it out, you have to put the stock tune back in the car.
The Hypertech Tstats are good to go. Just remember when you put a tstat in, you have to reprogram for the fans to come on earlier, too.

I have heard that putting the stock tune back is better but have a hard time believing that you loose 8 hp with the HPP ...not sure if it is true....since hypertech shows on there web a HP Dyno sheet from stock vs HPP and HPP is more....also a I raced against friend on a closed track with my 99 coupe with stock settings to his 98 coupe stock and we were close...but then I loaded in the HPP I beat him everytime. Went back to stock and it was the same as the first runs very close....so I have to differ an that. It works for me...but have never done a DYNO
Just like the turbinator... it makes you lose 6 hp and 11 lbs of torque. But they'll tell you all day long that it will give you power and gas mileage.
